Does anyone know the gain on the PT-100? I'd like to use it with an AMP that has a gain of 34.5db but if the gain on the PT-100 is too high I may need to add a passive pre-amp like the Schiit SYS to lower the gain.
I called Emotiva and they did not want to provide this spec for some reason. I tried explaining to the person on the phone that the Gain and the volume are different. I'd be running a Klipsch Gate streamer into the inputs on the PT-100 and the run the RCA's into my amp. I know the phono section has a selectable gain but what about the other inputs? The preamp has some sort of gain built in so I'd like to know that spec in db.
Thanks!

I ahve the DC_1 which is similar in volume control to the PT-100 and it ran an amp with 32 db gain. I may be wrong here but I think the PT-100 uses a digitally controlled analog resistor ladder. This means that it doesn't lose resolution like a digital volume control does when you turn it down. It would be helpful if you mention the amp you use. FWIW: most of the time people are concern that the gain isn't enough - but for the vast majority of amps out there the PT-100 has enough gain.

Thank you for the reply. It sounds like PT100 will work perfect for me. It gets delivered tomorrow. I’m running a job 225 amp and using my old pioneer sc09 avr as the pre amp for now. I’m excited to get the pt100 plugged in! I hope the pt100 works out good so I can repuporse the pio.

I received my PT-100 yesterday and I have to say I am very impressed! The build quality is great and it seems transparent and seems like it keeps itself right out of the way. Emotiva responded to an email I sent and the PT-100 operates with 29db gain. I like the tone controls, the little remote and the blue lighting!
1.) Does anyone know if the tone controls operate digitally or are they analog? 2.) Does the volume operate digitally or analog? 3.) Also when turning on and off the pre-amp I get a little pop sound through my speakers, is this normal?

OK I guess the popping sound is normal for pre-amps. This is my first time having separates so I didn't know what to expect. My research tells me that a pre amp should be turned on first and turned off last. Using that sequence will solve the problem.

I know this thread is old, but I have to say I am blown away with the PT-100. It's very transparent, stays out of the way and is highly functional. The Analog Devices AD1955A DAC chip is well implemented here. Digital sources have great body, detail, soundstage and clarity. I love having tone controls and NJW1194 chip does a great job in this pre-amp controlling both the volume and tone controls. The remote control is a very nice convenience. Build quality, the quality of components etc. are all top notch here and the PT-100 hits above it's price point. This is my first piece of Emotiva gear and it will not be my last. I put a short quick vid showing my PT-100 in action: www.youtube.com/watch?v=320NjF_rJr4

I don't know how loud of a pop you are talking about - but if it's loud then it's likely not normal.

Power on sequence is source, preamp, than power amp. Off is the reverse, that way you don't get any thumps from the turn on and turn off transients. Basic audio 101. Works like a champ.
