Anybody have Bias Lighting on the back of their TV for movie viewing? How effective is it and does it add to the ambiance of movie viewing? How far from the edge have you mounted it? Worth the minor investment to you?

I have one behind my Sony 75XBR X940E. I only turn it on when watching movies. It sure adds ambiance and to a minimum level reduces eyestrain caused by differences in pic brightness when watching movies in a dark room. It also gives the effect of better contrast.

I tried it with my OLED and really didn't care for it. Maybe because the contrast ration on the OLED is so high to begin with. It's still connected but I haven't used it in months.

We've used back lighting ever since we've used flat panel displays. Love it.

I do not have bias lighting around the back of TV itself, but I do have back lighting above and behind the TV. My TV is on a 3/4 wall so I added multi-color dimmable LED lighting above and behind the TV. I do notice it to be more comfortable and easier on the eyes to watch movies with some type of back lighting. Attachments:

I use a 6500K color temperature CFL behind the display, in an up-light fixture positioned about 1/3 the distance from the bottom edge. It's on a triggered outlet that comes on when the pre-pro comes on.

Hmm, great question. I use negative light bias. Called it is dark. That is just me. Your mileage and lighting may vary of course. I have seen some systems do well with bias lighting, but for me, it is interesting but I am in the dark on why I would like it.

I did have it in the old days (SDTV - rear projection TV). Don't need it now with OLED.

We have an OLED and think it adds to the room and picture view ability! Glad I made the in vestment in time and money. This unit is dimmable, I’m not familiar with other manufacturers. May add it to the Mrs HT TV,

Reviving an old thread.
Picked up a couple of LIFX TV light strips on sale at Lowes for $29.99 each. Normally $70. Going to try it behind the 65" Samsung. The price and curiosity sucked me in.
It's a 1 meter strip and I'm planning on connecting it with 3M tape reusable tape to avoid sticking it to the TV semi-permanently.
So, I do have a question....this thing can produce most any color under the rainbow....what do the experts say should be the color to use? Is there any one such thing? I'm assuming 6500K is the ideal.

I've got a plain old indoor LED bulb, probably 2700K, behind the TV (Sony 75"). I.e., cheap cheap (the bulb, not the TV). It's even temporarily in a glaring orange work light as the switch on the small lamp it was in before stopped working. So, probably about as bad a color rendition as possible
