Is there a way to get a side by side comparison of all specs between both of these preamps?
I was told they are the same except for trim color.. but that can't be all there is to it. The insides look very different,so I'd think there was a lot of difference even though small.
As for phono input.. does the gen2 use a different or improved phono preamp? Or does the gen1 carry over to gen2

Well.....you found the answer, the insides look very different!! I'm sure one of the grizzled veterans on here can dig up a side-by-side spec sheet, and that would be awesome, as I have a Gen 2.

My understanding from back in the day that the majority change was going from THT to SMT on the board. Doing that may have made a difference in layout.

The gen 2 uses surface mount parts which shows the difference in layout. The specs aren't much different - if at all. The trims are different with the gen 1 being silver and the gen 2 being black and having the gen 2 logo on the front chassis.

Another difference between Gen 1 and Gen 2 versions is that the Gen 2 has improvements in the power supply that enables the Gen 2 to drive amps with input impedances as low as 600 ohms.

The trims are different with the gen 1 being silver and the gen 2 being black and having the gen 2 logo on the front chassis. And that makes the Gen 1 more desirable because it's more repairable!
