I thought I'd ask you directly about Moving Coil cartridges... And Emotiva Preamps (PT-100 and XSP-1)
If I use a MC cartridge, do the Emotiva preamps prefer low or high output types?
Or does it matter?
Whichever type I use, do I still select the MC setting on back of preamps?
And which MC setting on the Preamp does one use? There are about 4 choices. Pick one that sounds the best or match it to the MC spec sheet?
Thanks!
Someone who knows nothing about MC cartridges..
David

For High Output Moving Coil you use the MM setting. The setting is all about the gain.
For low output you use the MC setting and on the XSP-1 (I believe) you have additional loading setting to more closely match the MC cartridge.

David The XSP-1 and XPS-1 will both accept MM and MC cartridges, not sure about the PT-100. A high output MC cartridge generally acts like a MM cartridge and you use the MM setting, typically you only use the MC preamp setting for Low Output Moving Coils. I don’t think Emotiva preamps prefer one over the other but (like speakers) most people have a preference, the best cartridges I’ve heard have been LOMC.

Finally a thread I can sink my teeth into!
Your Emo Pre will accept either MM or MC it is basically an onboard version of their XSP-1. As for setting it all depends on what Cart you choose AND your personal preference. (MC) A Cart manufactures recommended loading is what they think the Cart sounds best based on it's design however it will still be up to the end users preference and the particular Pre is used on what load to use. (MM) As for MMs the "load" is typically set at constant 47 Ohms but there are some Capacitance settings that may, or may not, come into play. I say Nay to MM and Yay to MC!

The Pt-100 has a selector on the back of it.
