Hey guys I've had the bare circuit board for a while and I'm finally getting around to putting it together. I'm chronicling the build here: Tavish Design Vintage 6SL7 Phono StageI'm not trying to shamelessly promote my channel (I recognise the quality of the videos is quite poor) but hopefully someone will find it interesting. Should have everything done by next week. Mike

Well that was a fun build. I powered it up last night and thankfully nothing blew up. Hopefully this weekend I'll get a chance to do some critical listening. I'll let you know how it sounds.

Well I'm impressed. I've posted a review video however I'm not very good at describing what I hear. For a bit of context, I listen to my turntable on reference stereo and my main speakers are the Paradigm Prestige 95F. The best I can describe it is that everything sounds more robust without loosing clarity. I would say the most noticeable difference is in the mid bass range. Distorted guitars have much more body to them. Overall it just seems to sounds better.
Now as this is one of the rare opportunities that I have 2 of the same components I can compare, my plan is to setup a blind listening test, maybe I'll even convince my wife to participate. I'm curious about the results because after spending 2 weeks assembling this preamp there's no doubt I've got some bias built into my brain. It's always interesting to see if my perception matches reality. To be continued....
