So a RPA-1 (yes, ancient i know) has come up in a as is condition, powers up and immediately shuts down. What can anyone tell me about this amp? If i can get it cheap, i might just get it to poke around in....

I have one doing the same. Been boxed for quite a few years now. I remember others on the forum way back then with the same issue and was recognized by emotiva. Mine was out of warranty and have been lazy about fixing it. Seems like it was an easy repair but not sure if it requires specific RPA parts. KeithL.

Tag KeithL like this But may be best to just call Emotiva for an answer on having it repaired. Chad

I called Emotiva and asked about getting service manual or schematics for it. Not worth sending in to them. I'd get it just to putter around with. Also, i found out per owner, it will run for about 5 minutes before shutdown...

But a piece of gear is only worth what somebody is willing to pay. The seller got back to me and said he would accept the 100...i had it in mind that the problem could possibly be bad/cracked solder joint because of the statement that it stays on for 5 minutes or so. However, upon further reflection, i would agree it is just too iffy a proposition......

For the money to buy, ship to and from Emo and the probable price of repair (and i seriously doubt that they will even bother with it being that it was from about 2006.....) i could buy a much newer XPA-2 model... And i don't really need it as i have both a UPA-1 and XPA-1L pair..........It was something that caught my eye in the local Craigslist and is fairly close to where i live....
