At first I thought I was having a speaker connection issue, but now I know I’m not.
I’m using an it Onkyo 686 and have everything running through it. My UHD player gives me 5.1 sound, I’m glad about that. But since we cut cable, all TV and most movie watching is through Netflix, Hulu and amazon prime. I can only get 2 channel sound. I went into the Roku menu and it’s set correctly (near as I can tell), Netflix and prime, I made sure the movie title was set on 5.1, but when it plays, I’m not getting anything but stereo sound.
On the Onkyo, the Roku is connected by an hdmi cable to “streaming box”, this Onkyo is connected to the tv by hdmi as well. The Roku player is directly connected to the internet and the video looks great (4K), the sound in stereo sounds great, I just can’t get 5.1.
Any suggestions, am I missing something obvious? Anyone else have this problem in the past?
Thanks so much for your help! The people here have been great, I really appreciate all the help I’ve gotten so far.

Sorry if it sounds obvious, but did you try to reboot the Roku?

Sorry if it sounds obvious, but did you try to reboot the Roku? Yes I did. Good suggestion though. I thought about that, one of the few computer fixes I know, so I think that’s why it came to mind.

Try switching to a different hdmi input? Did you check any available settings inside Roku to make sure it’s sending the right signal? Have you tried switching through audio modes on the onkyo?

I’ll try all those. Another thing that occurred to me is it’s been awhile since I updated it. Hopefully one of those will help. Otherwise, I might be in the market for a new device. This is a Roku 4. I might need a newer version
