Not a huge fan of RoKu vs Firestick. I retired my 4 RoKu's for 8 firesticks. Which Roku's did you have? Mark

I’m doing the free trial on YouTube TV thru my on board Sony tv app and the local channels are all now coming thru at 2.0. The website that I was viewing a comparison on the streaming services says you don’t get but 2.0 on a lot of the channels. Are you guys getting 5.1 on the local channels and ESPN, etc? Does the Roku work differently than my Sony smart TV apps? I sure hope so... The ROKU website states that the ROKU must go through a processor and then to your TV in order to playin surround. I’m not going thru a Roku yet, I am going straight from my smart TV (Sony XBR). I would assume if it was in 5.1 I would be getting that to my Xmc-1

I get 5.1 from the TV for other smart tv apps like Netflix. So I know the tv passes 5.1. I looked and it’s all over the internet about Hulu and YouTube TV not having anything but 2.0. I’m just surprised no one on here has mentioned it. That’s a major issue for me to cut the cable but not get anything but 2.0 on all the network channels, espn, etc.

Once I decided it did all I wanted, I cut the cable. You could order a Roku (I reco the Ultra - no need to cut corners with such inexpensive devices) via Amazon. If it does all you want - great. If not, return it. Mark

I cut the cord in late May and added a Roku Ultra to the system. I spent quite a bit of time researching gear and what programming was available online. It's worked out quite well and I've not had a problem with the Roku at all.

I’m still not getting an answer to my question on lack of surround on local channels. Are you all getting DD 5.1 sound on local channels thru the Roku or anything else you’re using to stream?

I don't typically watch my local TV in surround. I watch local on my TV's that are in different parts of the house. I'll try to check later if I am getting surround on my Roku that's in my theater. The Roku Ultra and Streaming Stick+ allow "Dolby Audio™ and DTS pass through via HDMI", so I would imagine it allows pass through of lower levels of surround also. And, per my prior note, you could order one, try it, and if it doesn't provide what you need - return it. Nothing to lose, really. Mark
