Hello,
I purchased a XSP-1 about 3 weeks ago. (See unrelated issues opening the remote control back).
My system is set up: MacBook Pro --> XDA-1 --> XSP-1 --> XPA-2 --> ERT8.3s. The XDA-1 is on full volume.
For about a week, it worked perfectly! Sounded beautiful, and a definite step up from my previous XDA-1 --> XPA-2 set up. I went on a vacation for a week, and left the system shut down for the entire time. On my return, I switched on the system, and, alas, that's when the vacation truly ended.
The music played for about 45 seconds, and then completely stopped. The MacBook was still playing, but there was no music coming through the speakers. I tried switching it off and back on, but the same problem persists. 45 seconds of music, and then nothing. If I switch back and forth between sources (it's on Balanced 1), the music comes back on for less than a second, and then stops again.
Any thoughts on what could be wrong? I've emailed customer support already.
Thanks for your help!

It looks like it is back up and running... I will keep this thread going for a few more weeks to report if anything changes. Thanks for the response.

I'm of the belief these XSP-1 pre's are a complete crap shoot. I trust mine about as much as I trust my ex-wife. If you get a good one, probably years of service....you get a bad one ( mine ) panic & apprehension every single time I hit the power switch to turn it on. Zero trust that it will work....like a teenager at McDonalds. Good luck to you....

So very sorry to hear this, I owned a gen 1 and gen2, had no regrets but when the XMC-1 came out I dumped it because I believe the technology was incorporated into the XMC-1. Never had a problem that I recall. Still miss the XMC-1 stability.
