I shouldn't have touched a good thing. I had my setup working stable for a while on the previous version, with my ATV remote controlling volume on the XMC-1 through CEC. I updated to 5.8 and CEC stopped working (again). What firmware version came before v5.8? Was it 5.4? I thought I had something more recent than that. If someone has a link to the most recent version before 5.8 I would appreciate it.

Just make sure you don’t install 5.7!

The last posted version on the XMC-1 firmware is 5.4, but I thought I was running something more recent than that.

HERE is a Dropbox download link to the last "safe" firmware prior to (what we call) 5.7. Since they don't put the version numbers in the filename (and it's also cross-referenced to the RMC-1), I believe this was 5.6 on the XMC-1...

NOTE AND WARNING......
There was a specific reason why we released firmware v 5.8...
We discovered a bug in two of the previous versions (I believe 5.6 and 5.7)... If the bug bites you, and you configure your XMC-1 to be 2.0 or 2.1 channels, and then reboot it, it will lock up on startup... And, if that happens, it will have to be sent in for warranty repair to have its firmware re-flashed... This doesn't seem to happen to everyone.... And it only happens if you reboot your XMC-1 while it is configured to be 2.x channels.... But now you know WHY we strongly recommend using v5.8 and not the two or three previous versions...
Engineering also informs me that it is unlikely that upgrading to v5.8 is actually what caused your CEC to stop working.

Hmmm... the previous “ few” firmware versions prior to 5.8...? Good to now know the bug affected more than just 5.7 as was previously reported. I guess it’s a good time to delete them all off of my hard drive...

I am really hoping to use the old firmware to help debug the CEC issue I'm having. If I revert and find it's still broken then I have other issues in my system.

I'm willing to bet good money it's not the 5.8 firmware. I bought a second-hand XMC-1, could never get the CEC to work on it, although with the same firmware the CEC on my two other XMC-1 units (bought new) worked fine. Eventually ran the self-test (it's a button sequence on startup, can't remember the exact one right now) - turns out the CEC/ARC chip on that unit was bad (I don't think the CEC chip is on the V3 HDMI board, as I'd upgraded this unit to the new board and it still didn't work). Quick trip back to Franklin for service and all is well on that unit (CEC/ARC all working). Sounds like the same problem to me.

Here are the instructions for running the Power On Tests which include loop back and CEC
1. While pressing and holding "E" power button on front of XMC-1, flip power on from the back of the XMC-1. 2. After a couple seconds, list of options should appear on front of unit. Release front power button. 3. IMPORTANT: Before proceeding at this point, please wait a full minute while processor fully boots up. The screen may be active, however, the processor still needs to fully power. 4. After the allotted time has passed, press input 4 on the front panel of the XMC-1 to select the option "Loopback tests". Unit will run tests and will list three pass/fail categories. Please make note of these measurements.
I believe one of the other menu items is labeled CEC test, or has that in it.

This is what the results of the " loopback" test will show if your CEC controller chip is bad. This is my XMC-1 which, after failing the test, was returned to Emotiva for service and returned back to me with a brand new MSP430 circuit and with fully functional CEC/ARC. This was the only solution that fixed my CEC related "no ARC" issues. CEC and ARC were still functional on my XMC-1 even after the 5.8 update, but I have since removed my XMC-1 and reverted back to my AV7703 due to other (as of yet) unresolved issues with the V3 HDMI board. I would suggest running this test and contact Emotiva if your results are the same as mine...

I ran the loopback tests and they all passed. I then decided to try re-installing the 5.8 firmware. This time I unplugged everything and then reconnected a few minutes after updating. It worked!!! Got CEC back. There’s definitely some update oddness happening here.
