Interesting that Emotiva announced this new amplifier a week or so ago, yet there has seemingly been no discussion about it. Other than reading the specifications, how will this new mono block amp compare to the XPA DR-1 or better yet my existing XPA 1 Gen 2 mono blocs. These new amps seem like a lot of bang for the buck, but then thats par for the course for Emotiva.
Just wondering if anyone has stepped up to the plate and purchased any of them?
Thanks

Thanks The two most obvious things is that they are a lot less powerful. They are also not the dr1 monobloxks. They are the single blade and are not fully balanced. They appear to share more in common with the single wide xpawgen 3 units. So based on that I think your Xpa 1 gen 2 has the edge

Missed the earlier discussion somehow, thanks. Regarding them being fully balanced, your comments garbulky were what I was thinking as well.

Your XPA-1 has 16 output "devices". 8 for each side of your balanced path. My XPA-2 gen. 1 has 12 output devices per channel (but it's not balanced). The new XPA blades seem to follow suit with the rest of the Gen. 1 and Gen. 2 amplifiers with 6 output "devices" per channel. The DR-X blades are double wide, so I would guess that they are 6+6 output "devices" for a total of 12 output "devices" like the Gen. 1 and Gen.2 XPA-2s.
More output devices are used to lower the output impedance of an amplifier. Lower impedance usually results in better control of your speakers.
Throw in different power supplies and every configuration is going to have it's unique sound signature, despite engineering to minimize that.
So the HC-1 is a single blade (6 output "devices") amplifier with its "made to fit" gen. 3 power supply in a half wide case. Nice idea, but I would bet that you would be hard pressed to "hear" the difference between the HC-1, and a XPA-1 gen. 3, which is nothing more than a single blade (6 output "devices") in the normal gen. 3 case and power supply.
P.S. I almost forgot. That "made to fit" power supply is so good that the HC-1 is the only amplifier that Emotiva currently produces that doubles it's output wattage into half the load. (please correct me if I'm wrong)

Just FYI......
The XPA-1 Gen1 and XPA-1 Gen2 were fully differential models - like the XPA-DR1. There is no such thing as an XPA-1 Gen3 (the fewest channels you can get in a normal XPA Gen3 amp is two). The XPA HC-1 is the monoblock member of the XPA Gen3 family.
