Not sure where to post so I'll do it here. I'm sure some of you have seen my Wanted to buy post about IPS-1 amp cards. I have an IPS-1 that has a card that has been naughty, flickering on and off so to speak. Today I decided to take it apart again. I took it apart a couple years ago to unplug the card trying to mitigate any further damage. Upon inspection today I found metal whiskering! I've heard of it , I've seen photos but never seen it in person. Wicked thing it is. This whisker isn't shorting anything out though, so it shouldn't actually be the problem. I will be making a very detailed magnified inspection of all solder joint on this card, maybe there are other whiskers shorting out a connection. Pictures of the whisker, this is the back side of the positive speaker output terminal.

I would disassemble (remove nut & washer), clean with contact cleaner, maybe use some Deoxit & reassemble. Do all of them while you're in there. I have never seen that on anything that wasn't high voltage.

Cleaning it up and removing the whisker along with resoldering (the joint looked like is was a bit cold when originally soldered) the amp card now seems to function as it should. Hopefully it stays that way.
