Having a XMC-1 with HDMI 2.0b board and latest firmware v5.8. I read that firmware versions older than v5.8 have an issue with 2ch setups causing it to freeze during boot. Well, it seems that the issue is still on the v5.8. Watched flow TV in 2ch prologic mode. Initially switched from music to movie mode, then enabled loudness. All good. But suddenly the XMC-1 was not reacting on remote commands, no volume control, no power off. Used the backpanel switch for power and rebooted but the XMC-1 stopped the power on process when the progress bar under the logo reached the end. Followed the diagnostic procedure described in this lounge and was able to see that the loppback test for the ECC board failed. Seems that I have to spend some bugs sending it back for repair or is there a way out? (situated in Europe, so no cheap stunt to send it back)
Honestly I am disappointed to experience that a known issue reported to be fixed is not. A simple regression test would have caught the issue in v5.8 as well I would presume.

I know it may be difficult but a call to Emotiva may be your best bet, wouldn't be the best time wise in your parts of the world but from my experience they are always there to help.
Cheers, Chad

Cheers, Chad From someone who was probably patient 0 for the “2 channel bug” I can tell you it might not be a pleasant call. I’d also research to find if there are any Euro service centers. There used to be a European thread, but it’s not been active in some time.

A ticket has been raised at Emotiva. Purpose of my post was simply to hear whether anyone had been in a similar situation and had found a quick fix (have tried most of the advices that are to be found here in the lounge). And for those who have not yet played around with the settings in dual channel playback, do it with caution. At least until issue is understood I think.

Hopefully you get a fix and pronto, I know the feeling as I once owned a Marantz AV7702 that somehow locked up, took two and half months of back and forth emails and finally an RMA to ship it to them and back to me, some of the worst customer service I have ever encountered, each email back and forth was like a 3 or 4 day process Chad

The situation isn't very complicated.... There are no magic buttons or secret reset routines. If your XMC-1 actually freezes on startup, then the firmware has gotten corrupted, or something else is wrong, and it will have to come in to be checked out. (If the firmware is corrupted, the unit won't boot, and you can't reload the firmware at home if it won't boot.) Incidentally, while it's a pretty rare occurrence, this does happen occasionally for no apparent reason. There are a few things you can actually try: - unplug the unit and let it sit for about a half hour (this is a long shot - on rare occasions we've seen units "fix themselves" - perhaps it froze because something inside was affected by a static discharge) (if it isn't working again in fifteen minutes, then it isn't going to start after more time, but feel free to wait overnight if it makes you feel better) - unplug all HDMI input and output cables, and unlug any trigger cables you have connected, and try again (a shorted HDMI cable, HDMI device, or trigger cable can drag down the power supply and prevent the unit from booting; the timing could be a coincidence) But, if those don't do it, then your unit WILL have to come in for service. ... But, if those don't do it, then your unit WILL have to come in for service. ... Is there a service center in Europe that can re-flash the firmware?
