I am currently running my original XMC-1 processor into my original XPA-5 Gen1 amp out to Martin Logan Expression 13's, ESL Motif Center and Emotiva original surrounds in dipole mode. Sound is pretty much spectacular in either two channel or HT surround mode.
I am looking forward to the forthcoming XMC-1 Gen2 upgrade path (hopefully this year). While my Gen1 XPA is still great, I am wondering if I should give the XPA-5 Gen3 a shot as well?
Wondering if Emotiva might run some bundle offers to sweeten things around the time of the XMC-1 Gen2 launch? Could be a good way to generate even more sales?

I'm still running my XPA-5 Gen 1 (circa 2010) with my XMC-1 and have no plans to change it out. I have, however, changed the amp that I've used for my L/R speakers a few times. Sounds like you might be getting the dreaded disease, Upgraditus (don't worry, it gets us all eventually).

I would think the sound difference from the G1 to the G3 would be rather small if noticeable at all, but cost wise you would be looking at maybe $1000 depending on how much you sell your used XPA-5 for. I went form a XPA-2 G2 to the DR-2 (G3) and although the DR-2 is much more powerful I did not really hear any difference. Of course Emotiva does have a generous 30 day return policy, so you could always try out the G3 and if you don't think the jump is worth it, just return it and all you are out of is shipping.

If you already own the XMC-1 the deal sweetener is the trade in program, $1000 to go to the XMC-2 brand new with 5 years of warranty is a pretty sweet deal already I must say, I sold my XMC-1 about 2 months back as I was just going to buy one with my UFL 25% discount but my Sherbourn 7020A which I was gonna use in the meantime has started acting up some Pain In The Ass HDMI issues so I recently purchased another XMC-1 off Audiogon, waiting for the owner to transfer the XMC-1 into my name as I will likely be trading it in now, if I get the waiting list email that I can trade in in the next month I will likely have my buddy ship it from within the US instead of even bringing it back over the border. I don't even run 4K or Atmos yet but for the price of the upgrade why not as I may one day get a 4K projector when mine dies and prices of the 4K units come down even more.

Also... Keep in mind the gen 1 amps are selling for the same price they did when new.

I have heard both the XPA-5 gen 1 (or was it 2?) and the XPA-2 gen 3. I find the XPA-5 gen 1 tone to be more natural and the overall feel of the music to be a bit more open sounding and relaxed. The gen 3 has a bit better bass/impact but the sacrifice in the previous two sonic qualities has me reccomending you stick with your current amp. My friend and I compared the XPA-2 gen 3 amp to the Bas-x A-300 and to my surprise we both thought the A-300 sounded better though the bass was better on the XPA-2 gen 3. Note I haven't heard the DR-1 amps so I don't know what they sound like.

Chad Yeah that's a good deal. The XMC-2 is going to be pretty good imo.

Chad Shucks, they already have 8k available.
