After many many setups and combinations I think I’ve reached a really nice point of synergy between my speakers, amp & preamp.
This past month I was able to grab a new McIntosh MC462 stereo amplifier and their matching C2600 tube preamplifier. Initially I put the amp into the system and was impressed by the headroom and resolving detail the MC462 offered.
This past Monday I was able to bring home a new C2600 tube preamp and I was a bit nervous that for the money I might have made an expensive mistake. Once it was hooked up I immediately smiled at the absolute sonic synergy between preamp, amp and the legacy speakers. I’ve had them for over three years now with many different amp combos. For me the warmth and musicality in the final presentation has me very happy. The speakers are creating more of a sense of being in the recording than I have ever experienced.
Whether the MC is just warm and more musical versus accurate I don’t know. What I do know is that what I’m hearing has me enjoying music even more.

That’s nice,,,,,,,,,,what about the analog SQ? 😁 All kidding aside, this sounds like an End-Game system to me! Enjoy!

One could just hand their wallet to the dealer and ask him kindly to return it when he's finished....

The good stuff is expensive!!! Yes it is. And for most of my life it was relatively unattainable for me. At 5 years old I started this hobby with a Radio Shack mono cassette recorder/player. That was around 1975. In 1982 I took my earnings from years of a paper route and plunked $350 down on a Symphonic tuner/cassette/speakers combo with a JVC semi automatic turntable. In the 1990s I learned that if you work part time selling gear at a shop you can buy it for stupid discounts and I did. Only recently have I been fortunate enough to buy more expensive gear. Many pieces have not made the cut to stay in my system. Some were way more expensive than what I’m running. The mAin criteria I use when evaluating new gear in my system is so I enjoy how it sounds. Many pieces of expensive gear were promptly returned when they failed to provide me with results that made me happy.
