I own the following: Magnepan 3.7i Emotiva PT100 Emotiva XPA 2 Gen 3 I run everything optical from a Samsung Q9 and out to the PT100 so digital input is a must as the Samsung has no RCA outputs. I considered the XSP-1 but no digital input Stereo listening only!

Now this might sound crazy but an XMC-1 would be a great solution.

Just because it has 7.1 capability doesn't mean you have to use it. With and XMC-1 you can use it as a 2.2 channel preamp with optional Dirac room correction with multiple digital and analog inputs. It will sound better in my personal opinion to the XSP-1.

I would agree.
The thing you need to keep in mind is that Dirac, even more than any other sort of automatic room correction, is a form of complex digital processing. As such it requires a powerful digital processor to run.
In other words..... - You are NOT talking about "an XSP-1 with a DAC built in" (a DAC is a much simpler device than a processor)... - What you are talking about is "a two channel XMC-1"...
Because it had fewer channels, and lacked surround sound decoding, it could use a somewhat less powerful processor, and somewhat less analog circuitry, but the topology would be quite similar.
As Hair Nick suggested, if that's what you want, your best bet would be to simply use an XMC-1. (When they become available the price of a Factory Refurbished XMC-1 will be roughly comparable to the price of an XSP-1.... ) And, yes, the XMC-1 really does sound that good....

XMC-1, best money and investment you can make! Let me welcome you to the forum and pour you your first cup of Emo Blue!

I considered the XSP-1 but no digital input Stereo listening only! A used dc1 would be the upgrade. However though there is an audible improvement for me it is not a large one. Pretty small difference. For me any improvement is good but for others maybe be not.

Doesn’t it really come down to a price / performance ratio? Let’s say you took an XSP-1 (@ $1250) + an Emo DAC like the XDA-2G2 or DC-1 (either originally about $400). So this suggested XSP-2 might come in around $1500 to $1600. A used XMC-1 comes in around $1450, maybe less with the V1 board, if you need phono that would add $150-$200. I sold the XSP-1 and XDA-2 in favor of the XMC-1 for two channel (though I also use it for Home Theatre). Not only does it sound better than what it replaced (better DACs), but it includes multiple speaker presets, room correction, PEQ, and a huge variety of inputs and outputs. While I understand there’s a lot of stuff you might not use for two channel, the sound, options/flexibility, and price make it tough to beat.

In preparation for this was wondering what you all thought about how to hook it all up. Currently, I have everything running into the Samsung OneConnect which is HDMI inputs with a Toslink optical S/PDIF digital audio putput to the current PT100 soon to be the XMC-1. Was wondering to leave all the inputs as is and simply keep the current setup OR move everything to the XMC-1 via individual HDMI?

The TOSLINK connection only gives you stereo. Imo the point of the XMC-1 is multichannel room correction and bass management. Otherwise I thought the DC-1 was similar in sound. I believe it specs slightly higher than the XMC-1 in measurements but I doubt that's going to be reflected much in real world listening. So if you don't have multichannel, subwoofers or aren't interested in room correction, I'm not entirely sure what the extra money is going towards (other than that it's a new unit and the DC-1 is not). If you are only interested in stereo two channel, then the only other thing that the XMC-1 has is the ability to plug in HDMI connections. I myself have bypassed that using an HDMI to optical converter and you use the tv for that.

First off hit up your local guitar/music shop and grab some XLR cables to go from the XMC-1 to XPA-2 because they are well super cool haha, connect all your devices HDMI to the HDMI inputs of the XMC-1 and of course HDMI out to the TV, HDMI out #2 on the XMC-1 has ARC(Audio Return Channel) for any audio from apps on the TV itself if you do use it that way. If you are only using the Magnepan speakers as in no subs just the two speakers I would personally use "Reference Stereo" mode for the purest 2ch audio through the XMC-1. what sources do you have, any media players or DVD/Blu-ray players or do you just use the built in apps of the TV. Any word on warranty for the factory refurbished XMC-1's when they come up for sale? Now if your USD wouldn't mind just taking a bit of a tumble to bring it closer to our sad Australian dollar...then bring on all those used XMC-1's flooding in, with that very generous trade in deal 👍👍👍

Chad Already ordered XLR's from Amazon for comparison I didn't even mention my sub which is a Rythmik F12SE Everything I have is digital streamed from a Mediasonic ProRaid using Emby for all my media. The nice thing is to not have to care how much storage I need. I started this thread regarding the PT100 and was advised the XMC-1 was all that so why not!

I would have been reluctant to use a $13 part in this setup but this would have resolved my XSP purchase. Not sure of the sound quality using this OR the XSP versus the XMC?

Great news Bill, I have owned the XSP-1 and owning the XMC-1 it is IMO that good for 2ch, if you don't have the same findings well they sell very easily, for all in one unit though they are really good and Dirac for me is excellent as well, the Full version you can adjust the curve is even better. Cheers, Chad
