Looks cool, there are so many really cool looking turntables but after having a good music server system has made me never want to have to mess with vinyl. While I really love the styling and looks of many turntables, I simply don't want the hassle of playing vinyl, buying & storing vinyl, maintaining vinyl and the sound of scratches and dirt on vinyl. I prefer the sound quality, convenience and visualizations while playing my digital music. My MHDT NOS tube DAC brings me the best of both the vinyl analog sound quality and digital sound quality together.
But yes the SOL from Schiit looks awesome, sometimes I think a cool turntable would be great in my system but then I remember I just never want to go back to listening to vinyl, I'm too spoiled now.

Looks beautiful, specs are good, and price not too bad. I could be tempted!

I agree. I want to listen to the best quality recording on the best components that can reproduce that. Now of course I can not afford what my desires are. So after I do what I consider to be considerable time on audio forums, asking questions and reading extensively into threads on the subject of my queries, I know what the audio formats can do. The width of the groove of vinyl will not allow the reproduction of the lowest of frequencies. Not sure what that is but because of that fact, your mains might be covering enough of those lows that your sub may not be much of a factor. The main reason an LP setup would be a last consideration, for me, is the degradation of the source’s quality simply due to friction. However, my stepfather has an extensive LP collection that I can not wait to get my hands on. There is something simply nostalgic and hypnotic about pulling that wax out, cleaning it and setting the needle on that spinning disc.

However, my stepfather has an extensive LP collection that I can not wait to get my hands on. There is something simply nostalgic and hypnotic about pulling that wax out, cleaning it and setting the needle on that spinning disc. If I had an extensive LP collection I might consider a turntable, I do still have one crate of old LP's though I haven't listened to them in over 30 years and as I recall they were not in the most ideal sound quality condition when I last played them. But I could listen to my digital collection non stop for maybe 2 weeks without a song repeating just with the music I own and easy access to much more. Organization to find a song, album or artist is extremely easy and I have many playlists to suit my mood and I never need to have the music stop until I select and change an album. Plus I enjoy the visuals of having my display show a slide show of photos both old and new of the artist playing. I really don't miss the hassle of a turntable one bit. I built my own music server with quality components and with my fully balanced MHDT Stockholm NOS tube DAC the sound quality is amazingly better than anything I ever owned before, this DAC really does have the best of analog music quality, I love how it sounds. Here are pics of my music server and of my DAC, they are used with an XSP-1 preamp and XPA-2 amp. I love both the sound quality and the look of this system

SOL seems to be for people who are turntable people. It requires a complete setup and is in no way plug and play. If you want to dabble in Vinyl there are much better choices. It doesn't even come with a cartridge.

Wow, that is a good price. If I wasn't thoroughly satisfied with my current turntable, (and on a fixed income), I'd be looking into this! The table will ship without a cartridge, but includes a carbon fiber tonearm and independent motor pod.

Considering that I have never even installed a cartridge the setup would scare me. (Can you tell I'm trying to talk myself out of buying one?)

If I were to ever get a turntable, the SOL is what I would buy. It looks beautiful and I'm sure it must perform well. But I feel exactly the way you do when it comes to vinyl. Too much hassle for what you get. The records themselves cost too much for me, too.

Lot's of youtube videos and webpages about how to install a cartridge properly. I am actually considering my next purchase/upgrade. I recently paired my Schiit Sys Passive Pre-amp with my Emotiva XPA-100 monoblocks. Its a really good combo. I got one upgrade in me this year and have been debating which way to go. Currently I'm leaning to a Hana EH (or L) Cartridge for my Rega P2. Then I'd have a worthy cartridge for that SOL at least, although to be completely honest I really enjoy the stock Rega Carbon Cartridge.

I’ve always had to setup cartridges and if a turntable came with one I doubt I used it for very long. While it’s not trivial to get it right (depending on the turntable), it just takes a little time, care, and some tools. I have a stylus gauge, a small level, a test record, and can use my iPad as an oscilloscope, which helps with setting stylus pressure and anti-skate. However I just realized without a tape out on the RMC-1 the oscilloscope will be more difficult (boo!), but I have an idea. Most turntables also come with a template to help you set the cartridge angle.
This section in the description even addresses the setup concern.
Total Adjustability for Every Need Sol was also designed to help you extract the maximum performance from every cartridge. Literally everything is adjustable. From on-the-fly VTA, cartridge angle, anti-skate, and even tonearm pivot height, platter height, and motor pulley height, we have you covered. You’ll be comfortable using an expensive cartridge with Sol, knowing you’re getting the most out of it.

Which test record do you prefer? Question open to anyone that has one and has set up a TT.

It looks good. At the end of the day it is just a needle "gliding" through the grooves.

Which test record do you prefer? Question open to anyone that has one and has set up a TT. I have a very old one made by Shure, I think it was only distributed to dealers as it has a plain white cover with a small label in the corner. So to answer your question, I prefer "The White Album"!
