Dyohn reminded me of Chicago Transit LP, so I decided to pay it.(after 30 yrs) Technics SL1200 (semi-automatic) gets to to 1/4" from end of LP & it pulls back & will not finish the LP, won't pick up & return. I just did a thorough clean & lube about a month ago. Don't believe it's an anti-skate issue, what I'm I forgetting?

Even though it’s been more than 20 years I used to own a SL1200. Set the anti skate to 0 and make sure the arm beatings are not over tightened, and also that the wires are not catching on anything.

Found a white round piece of plastic with off center phillips type hole fall out after removing the bottom plate... oh boy, could be a cam. Can't see enough without disassembly Plastic is getting brittle. It's time to replace (I've been needing an excuse) Thx David

Yea, Technics are tanks but like anything else will fail with age. Plenty of really good options out there at the moment...

You could download a repair manual and search for parts, or just get a new one. For reference you can join and download a manual here: VinylEngine

Technics was sold on eBay (for parts), may have been a bad decision but moving on. Dug into closet boxes looking for a Pioneer PL12D which would be acceptable for my needs, then remembered selling it years ago. I paid around $65-70 new, now selling up to $500- don't know whether to laugh or cry. Did find 5 old 1/2" cartridges (couple nice ones) and another Technics TT, SL-B95 with 'P' type AT cartridge (my wife's? don't know) it's in worse condition than the SL1200. I also found a 12", 45 rpm promo of Rod Stewart "The Killing of Georgie I & II" wonder what that's worth? I'm going round & round what to do about another turntable, looking at new. Everything I like is $400+, can't justify the cost of what I like and previously owned vs what will be acceptable occasional play of old LPs and have no plans to buy new LPs. Always preferred "S" shape arms and want hydraulic lift, semi would be handy. Looking at something around $200. Leaning toward (#1) Fluance, (#2) Monoprice Monolith, or Crosley C200; considering Audio-Technica AT-LP120X, Stanton T.92, Teac TN-300SE Any opinions on those options or another?

Fluance RT82 keeps getting into the mix and most likely the one I get. Shipped cartridge is irrelevant to me, I still have Stanton, Empire, AT VIII, Shure M91E & my favorite V15 III cartridges (and can upgrade stylus if need be)
I'ld discard/bypass any cheap built-in preamp of the tables. It still comes down to two Table specs- wow & flutter and resonance noise- and I know a few tricks for resonance noise.
I'll see what Black Friday or Cyber Monday offers on something else

You guys DID take me on a CTA memory lane trip. I bought that first album within the first year it was released. A great album and one of the game changing groups at that time (Blood Sweat and Tears, 10 wheel Drive, etc.) They were a great studio group, but a disappointment in a live performance setting. I found myself rapidly loosing interest in them after the second album. 50 years gone by......I believe I'm becoming fossilized. Bill

Hey Bill, if talking about 'console stereos' didn't make you "fossilized", nothing will. lol

Both the Chicago and BST first albums are something. The BST was really pretty well recorded with good dynamics and sense of space in the recording if my memory serves.

Trey Trey, it may have been a well recorded LP, but my Blood, Sweat & Tears (2nd) is worn out, need a new recording. I liked the Al Kooper lp (1st)- "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know" and "I Can't Quit Her". Julian Coryell, son of famed jazz guitarist Larry Coryell, is in the band now.

Have you checked out U-Turn Audio, I'm really happy with mine, i went the custom route with acrylic platter, Ortofon Blue in the color green. The basic setup starts at $179, you could do the custom one choosing your color or woodgrain and go from there as there are about 5 or 6 cartridge choices. uturnaudio.com/

Well Texzick, it doesn't have an "s" shaped tone arm, and it isn't in your price range. But if I were to upgrade from my legacy turntable, I'd be tempted to replace it with the Schiit Sol.

repeetavx- I had no clue Schiit made TT. Above my budget for something I rarely use. I set $200 +/-20% as my price range. (which is why I dumped the Technics. Think the motor was going bad- it didn't want to spin up as quickly, speed varies a bit plus plastic parts brittle- repair cost) Thanks for the info.
Chad, Thx. I saw your system pics, it's really nice. It's more than I need and still have some nice cartridges, unused. Years ago, I would not even blink spending $700+ for a table, not now, all LPs are old, don't plan to buy new.
Edit repeetavx that table is cool.
I don't know what Novisnick has spinning LPs, but that is really nice. I think he's still buying LPs. Fluance RT82 is looking best for my budget & use.
