I am relatively new to the XMC-1 (bought a refurb unit). Anyway, I was experiencing short 1 second random audio drop out when using either ARC or Optical from my LG Tv. The drop out issue is tied to the Lg selection of "Auto" for the optical / ARC external output. The audio output has this drop out when using Auto as the output mode selection. When I set it to PCM output, both ARC and optical work fine. The only drawback, is that the PCM mode only gets converted to Dolby PLII instead of Dolby 5.1. Not a big issue, but the 5.1 mode is better overall.

Update to my original post. The ARC / Optical drop out issue was not the Auto/PCM selection with the LG TV. The ARC in auto mode (5.1 capable) started working fine for the last month or so. Today, the audio dropout started again. This time I traced it to my HDMI connection from my PC. Unplugged the HDMI cable and all was well (no drop-out). Plug the HDMI back in and the drop out started again. Rebooted the PC and all is well again. Something coming from the PC HDMI is causing an input switch on the XMC-1. This even effects the audio from the optical to the XMC-1. All sorts of crazy stuff I barely understand..
