Hey all,
New to the lounge. Placed an order Monday with Audio Video Logic in Iowa for a new ERC-4. After placing the order I did a bit more research on Emotiva's site and discovered that the 12v trigger ports have been deleted from the new CD unit!!?? I have sent Emotiva an email for clarification but I thought I would post on the group as well to see what I am missing.
Why would they remove the trigger ports? I'm totally confused.....
I'm currently running an XPA-DR2, a PT-100 preamp, a set of JAMO C-103 bookshelf speakers and an SVS SB-16 Ultra sub. I LOVE my setup!!
Thanks so much in advance for the help!! I really appreciate it!!

Just got my reply from Emotiva. Looks like I will now have two DACs in my system.
Hi Rick,
Thanks for contacting us. The ERC-4 does not have a trigger in or out, because we added a DAC to the unit that can be used with other components and this took up all the space on the rear panel. We believe that most of our customers would prefer to have the DAC functionality over the trigger connectivity. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

The short answer is that, compared to most other components, not many people really use a trigger input or output on a CD player. (After all, unlike with many other components, you do have to physically insert and remove CDs from the player when you play them.) (Although, I guess, with the ERC-4, you could be using it as a DAC, and might want to switch it remotely then.) Hey all,

First let me say I don't really care either way whether if it has a trigger or not. As long and I can turn it on or off via remote control I'm good. So my replies are just more a matter of commenting on the answers given. The short answer is that, compared to most other components, not many people really use a trigger input or output on a CD player. (After all, unlike with many other components, you do have to physically insert and remove CDs from the player when you play them.) Depends on one's system. But I would say it's more convenient for turning off rather than turning on. You're right, when turning on you have to put a CD in anyway, so 1 extra button push isn't a big deal. But for turning off, this isn't the case, so a trigger might be helpful to some people. But to add to your point, most people have remotes that can do things like macros to turn on / off multiple components. If you have one of these remotes then it basically makes a trigger unnecessary. Bingo. I don't know the answer to this, but did the ERC-1, ERC-2 and ERC-3 all have said triggers? If they didn't, then no issue here. But if they did, then why did you remove them? Cost cutting I would guess. But yet it would be another forward and backward on the Emotiva list.

I don’t understand that “ALL of the SPACE on the BACK PANEL is taken up by a DAC” 🤯

The ERC-1, 2 and 3 ALL had triggers. :-(

Hello All,
Another annoying thing about the ERC-4 is the fact that is is NOT gapless playback. Especially when listening to live music, there is an annoying gap in the music between songs - drives me nuts, might have to get another CD player Too bad because the sound of the ERC-4 is amazing
