Using the IR Signal Input

Hi

I just bought an MC-700 to replace my defunct UMC-200. To use it in a hidden position (adjacent room) I purchased this BAFX Remote Extender.

Is it possible to use the IR Signal Input on the back of the 700 with a cable or do I need to use the emitter method? 

Also another minor question, where is the IR receiver on the front? Left side of display?

I run a cable from my Harmony Hub to the IR input of the RMC-1 (and previously the XMC-1), I’d expect the 700 to work the same, no emitter required.

Edit: I also disable all of the IR receivers.
