So....after dealing with this damn things turn on issues since buying it ( 2nd owner )......I finally had enough yesterday after attempting to get it to turn on, over 50 cycles of the power button.....she wouldn't come to life. Made a video of the madness attempting to get it to turn on, but some words and phrases uttered can not be shared on here . So......for a flat rate of 300 bones, the big "E" promises to fix it and make me smile again. I wonder if I made the right call.....as opposed to poking around under the hood myself first?!?. For under $250 shipped I could have bought Creimes Sherbourn instead....hmmmmm.

Obviously you have tried changing the fuses? Cheers Gary Well....no. My thinking was, if fuses were blown it wouldn't even try to come to life. I'd get a click...relay type noises, blue lights, followed by click, relay noises and back to amber light.....I'm thinking it was something beyond a fuse. If it wasn't, I hope the big "E" lies to me on the repair sheet and says a flux capacitor & fender gasket were at fault......then the 300 bones sounds reasonable. In the meantime, my 2 little Parasound Zpre pre-amps don't sound too bad.

The power supply can still power up the lights etc. I’d strongly suggest popping the cover off and checking them, take 5 minutes and might save you 3 hundy, Cheers Gary

Sooooo.....just heard back from the big " E "......it seems they had to replace C5,13,14,17,18 caps on the power supply they found defective and causing the issues. Hopefully this will be a fix that will last longer than the 120 days they offer in warranty for this work.... $300 bucks flat rate...no idea how much those cap's cost to replace, but feel glad it wasn't just a fuse as Gary Cook pointed out. We shall see. In the meantime, the UMC-1 I grabbed from pdaddy has been a nice pick-up filling in.

Hi'ya, cutie. A moll like you should already know about da XSP-1... Whaddaya? I gotta tell ya about it? Arrite then - Ya know better dan'ta lissen too close to anything dat I say... Da machine is a class act, not like me or da likes a youse. Balanced inputs and outputs, phono stage, 'n tone controls. Way too rich a feature set for any wise guy. Matter'a fact, I used none of 'em. None of 'em, I tell'ya. Now what I did use, yeah, in addition to you, moll, was da bass management and da remote input switchin'. Dat sub does just what it's supposed to, I tell ya - An' nuttin' but! Both da low pass and da hi-pass can be varied an' dat match, well ya just can't tell where it happens. Dat's what ya get when ya buy da good stuff! Whiskey or stereo, dat good stuff's easy ta tell. So what's it sound like? Better'n you, moll, dat's for sure, dis baby ain't got no whiney mudder-in-law sound to it. What it DOES sound like, though, aint so easy to say. Like a bought-off witness, it just don't make much noise. Dem cenner images, dey juss don't shift and beyond dat, dere ain't no easy way to describe da sound. I got no ten dollar words like image, spatiality, or soundstage for dis one. It's got dose, sure, but it don't seem to like add or subtrak nuttin dat I can tell. Maybe dose "golden ears" can tell some diff, but ta me, it juss sounds like da source. An' nuttin is what da good ones are SUPPOSED to sound like. If it were like addin' or takin' sumpin' away, THEN I'd be obligated to rough it up a bit - no, moll, we aint doin' that just now, but dere aint nuttin dat I can hear. No hiss, no hum, an' no noise of any kind - jus' like I like you, moll. Quiet is a good thing for wiseguy nerves. When it plays, what I hear's absolute music to my ears - good when da source's good and not so good otherwise. Who'm I ta knock a good thing? I tell'ya, moll, this one's a keeper, just like you. Now don' go all weepy on me now - Ya know that sentiment stuff juss aint for da likes of me... I us'ta be big, strong, and stupid, but I ain't big & strong anymore. Even so, I know a good thing when I hear it. Emotiva done good again.

I guess you must be too young to remember real original "gansgster language".
There's probably some more detailed and technical description but...
A "moll" is sort of a a female assistant... who carries your guns, your cigars, and your hand grenades for you. Think the gangster's equivalent of a superhero's sidekick.
And, no, in the old days you didn't hear of female gansgters or male molls...

A reminder that parts quality, especially capacitors, is so important to a component's quality. Cheap parts may not be the best path to lasting value.

Very true......but I have no control over where & how Emotiva sources their capacitors. Hopefully the ones used in the repair are better than the ones it originally came with.

Probably not... "Repairs" are made these days by modular substitution. The old idea of an actual "repairman" at a bench with a VOM and a soldering iron is just that - an old idea.

Rare are the guys who this resistor in the buffer stage took out whatevers, and this coupling capacitor wanted a divorce from this -12 volt rail. Swap tronics or toss it out and get another one is all too common. And shite parts inside does no one any good. I replace all my eletrolytics with quality Nichicon Muse and the like. I hate having to touch it again any time soon on the inside.
