Seeing what is going on with the prices of the Oppo 203 new and used is making me sick. Im seeing them being priced out at 3 and 4 times the price when you could get them for a little over 5oo bucks brand new. Im still kicking my self in the ass for not getting one.

Shoulder shrug for me.
203 is nice, but the 205 is wasted money because it's just not that great.
I would rather have a new Panny 4k player for video and an older used Denon universal player for SACD and DVD-A. They simply sound better than Oppo, at least to me (I have a highly acclaimed Oppo 105).

Most of us though let am external DAC, processor, or receiver do the decoding, so agreed, the 205 would be a waste of money in that sense, but the 203’s ability to play any disk you can stuff into it (well), play (even the most demanding video) files from an external USB flash or disk drive (and network), and even play external HDMI sources (acting as a video analysis tool), well built too, I agree with fritz, the 203 is quite a great player (and not just because it has become expensive). But yeah, Panasonics get good reviews too.

I own an Oppo 203 and its a great player. However, its now three years old, so I have no idea why people are paying so much for them. As much as I love mine, if it dies I'm not about to spend a lot to get another one. I'm sure someone has since made a very nice player that is capable of replacing the Oppo. Though, its possible that by the time it dies I may not be able to find a new physical media player. Even I don't use my Oppo that much. I tend to stream most TV and movies and only purchase discs for movies I really loved.

in 2008, I purchased a 400 BluRay changer from Sony. Cost was about $500. They're going for > $2500 now. Unfortunately, I don't own it today.

I recently purchased an LG 4K 65" C9 OLED and need to upgrade my disc spinner.
3 star and below owner reviews across Amazon of any and all 4K UHD Blu Ray players are consistently poor.
Any OWNER advice/recommendation out there supporting a RELIABLE/UBER performing 4K UHD player under $500 ??
I usually skip all 5 Star reviews on the interwebs, they seem somewhat overblown IMO.
Thanx!! And MERRY CHRISTMAS SOON to ALL!!
