KeithLHi Keith We've heard a good amount about the airmotiv tweeters. However something that has consistently impressed me are the woofers on the airmotiv product line - both the passive and the actives. Is there any further information you could share with us regarding the design/build that makes it sound so good?

Hmmmm.... The Airmotiv tweeters get a lot of attention because, not only do they work very well, but they use a somewhat unusual technology. (And, for nostalgia buffs, they are a modern redesign of the original "Heil Air Motion Transformer", and one that retains all of the virtues of the original, but overcomes all of the drawbacks.) However, with cone drivers, it's more a matter of doing several things well, and in the best possible combination, that contributes to how they sound. It's really more a matter of careful attention to detail than any one single material or technology. For example, most of our Airmotiv speakers use woven fiber cones, which offer an excellent combination of stiffness and damping characteristics. However, there are many other materials we could have chosen that would have worked almost as well, or would have worked exactly as well, but would have cost more. (And there are many excellent drivers that use everything from non-woven pulp paper, to aluminum, to ceramic, and even some exotic composites.) Likewise, the drivers we use all feature a well-designed motor assembly, with powerful magnets, and properly engineered voice coils and formers, but there's no specific component that is very unique or unusual.
Tweeters exist almost in a separate world... where the performance of the driver itself has a major impact on the final sound quality. In contrast, a woofer must work well with the cabinet you design for it, and designing a crossover that can extract the best performance from it is even more critical. Therefore, while a lot of the credit for how the Airmotiv tweeters sound goes to the tweeters themselves, most of the credit for the rest goes more to how well the driver, crossover, and cabinet work together.
It really just comes down to good engineering, attention to detail, and sitting down and listening to the design at various points in the development cycle to make sure that it actually sounds good.

I can honestly say the T1 has the best sound to my ears in my room so far from the speakers that I have owned, Polk Audio, Monitor Audio, Chane and other Emotiva speakers, they seem very resolving as in very airy and open sounding and my enjoyment level has never been this great, especially listening to music, I really like these speakers Anyone who is on the fence thinking about the T1 or the T2 I say take the leap, they are fantastic sounding speakers and kudos to the team who designed and developed them, I think competition is bleak at this price level. Chad I am on the fence re purchasing T1 or T2. When you say the T1 'has the best sound', are you saying this with the T1's standalone against the T2's? I would imagine that T1's with your mach 5's would be an entirely different comparison to the T2's standalone.

I listen prob about 80% of the time with just my T1 in "Reference Stereo" so no subs active, the low end from the T1 is actually really impressive, I'd have to imagine the T2 would even be a bit more but I can't say as I haven't compared them both, but the T1 is better in the low end than my Chane A5rx-c I directly replaced with the T1's with. Obviously I haven't heard every speaker out there or a whole lot but for the price the T1 sell for I am very very impressed I will say. Chad
