I am pretty surprised at the list. I'd put several Steely Dan LP's on the list, as well as Miles Davis' Kinda Blue, Paul Simon Graceland, Neville Brothers Yellow Moon, and many more.

“Puzzle” by Dada is extremely well recorded.
“Waiting for the Night” by Freddy Jones Band has the dynamic range and pristine sound that every recording deserves.
“Just Like You” by Keb’ Mo’ is gorgeous.
“Spilt Milk” by Jellyfish is a sonic masterpiece and extremely underappreciated.

*bleep* Brew rated ahead of Kinda Blue is a mystery to my ears.
I have NEVER heard a good pressing of any Eno album, including my special pressing of Music for Airports. Not sure we use the same definition of audiophile record.
And then there are all the newer musical biscuits which I am too much of an old fart to have heard. But the Eno pick (and I really enjoy Eno musically) baffles me to consternation.

I was never much of a Beatles fan, but I did buy a copy of Abbey Road, back when it was released. It WAS one of those albums where I was quite impressed with the “high fidelity” more so than some of those tracks on there. (When I use the crosswalk down the block from my house to get the dog walked, I think “Abbey Road” to myself and pray I don’t get run over.) Another great one was Steve Winwood’s original Back in The High Life release. Awesome drums on that one. Bill |

Bill, I'm the same way with Eagles- Long Road Out of Eden, good recording, not impressed with the album.
When we got T2+, my wife played Nora Jones - Come Away With Me multiple times.
We also played some of the above mentions
Who's not on anyone's list and why- god's albums, Clapton, many very good- "August" & "Journey", but I can't think of one that I would say 'great recording'. "Pilgrim" is not good at all.
How is that possible that one of the all time greats not have some of the greatest recording? Can't be a money problem. (just my opinion)

I think the problem is often artists that can no longer hear well or folks that have not been exposed to audiophile values. And then sometimes the folks producing the record are so green that they record very simply and it shows in the sound.

Slowhand is to me the better mix of the 2, Glyn Johns (the original mixer) did a great job maintaining the original integrity and at the same time expanding the sound stage in the 5.1 mix. Sound quality is really good, so the 40 + year old tapes must be in good condition. Still retains the 70’s predisposition to heavy bass, which I’m used to, but someone brought up on compressed CD’s might find not to their tastes. Cheers Gary |
