So after two weeks in transit my ERC-4 finally arrived a week ago today. It sounds, or rather performs fine, much better than I would have imagined. Owned the ERC-3 model before but to my ears and in my system the #4 outperforms by some margin. Thats the good news.
The bad news is my transport is very noisy, considerably more than my model #3 was. Its bad enough you can hear it clear across the room some 12-15 feet away and for an old geezer with less than perfect hearing this is not good. By comparison my Oppo 203 is very quiet which can only be heard if putting your ear right up next to the player while spinning. It was my understanding with this new player Emotiva had fixed the noisy transports. From what I recall the few reports here have also indicated how much quieter this new model #4 is.
I've sent a note to Emotiva in the meantime but have yet to hear back.
The reason for the post is to verify if everyone else who has purchased the new CDP really does have a quiet transport? Thanks

I have the ERC3 BUT I thought the 4 was supposed to have a different and quiet drive. My 3 is noisier with some discs than others but I don't hear it when the music is playing and I'm fairly close to the audio rack. Hopefully someone will chime in who owns a 4.

Hello David
I owned the ERC-3 and luckily it did not have any transport noise. It did however have audio drop outs on many of my CDs I replaced it with the ERC-4 and it is was also very quiet. My only major complaint is that it does not offer gapless playback. Maybe its just me, but that's a deal breaker, so I bought a Denon player to replace it. I miss the ERC-4 for it's appearance but my Denon sounds excellent. Hope this helps

My ERC-3, ordered the day they were released, has never once had a drop out, just lucky I guess. But my Sony BDP had its first ever problem dropping out while playing Spiderman Far From Home 4K last weekend. So maybe my luck is just about to run out with disc spinners.
Cheers Gary

Likewise I have never experienced audio dropouts with either the ERC-3 or ERC-4. Gapless playback? Totally unimportant to me, could care less as long as the audio quality is excellent and the ERC-4 is. but the noisy transport is really disruptive. I have not heard back from CS at Emotiva on this either.

I've been in a conundrum for the last month and a half trying to decide what to do about my ageing ERC-1. It went out on me one day I was playing music and I've got to decide weather I should replace it with an ERC-4, or try to replace the part, or should I purchase something different. I was so busy over the holidays that I missed an opportunity to get another ERC-1 from a forum member. Then I attempted to purchase the replacement part from a company in Singapore I believe, I checked on the order status yesterday and it said the part will be available 3/1/2020 but I'm not sure if I should trust that. Honestly, after reading members post about the ERC-4 I'm reluctant about paying $600.00 for a noisy player that no longer has the dual RCA analog outputs on it which is one of the main reasons I love the ERC-1, and ERC-2. I've been looking into a Denon CD player and I will probably purchase one in the next two weeks. In the world of manufacturing things change, Emotiva lost it's disc loader manufacture it had to change designs. The new transport does not seem to be as quite as the older units. So I admit I'm a bit disappointed, but at 63 years young I believe I'd rather be disappointed for less money. Oh by the way my ERC-1 came back to life the very next day and it is currently playing it would probably be smart for me to wait until March but I could go thru that process and then that might not be the problem, or maybe something else might go wrong. Looks like two weeks I'll be placing an order, however I do intend to continue to use the ERC-1 until it dies.

Mine is still going strong though I will have to admit I don't use it all that much these days.

FWIW, I suspect my ERC-4 might be either a rare case or who knows perhaps the only one with a noisy transport. Not sure what the advantage is for two sets of RCA outputs, but if you really needed that Y adapters are always available. However given the design of this player, fully dual differential balanced, it wouldn’t makes since to me me to use it in any other way but balanced output. As for performance and sound quality it is extremely good and suspect one would have to spend a lot for an incremental improvement at best. Hope me this helps.

Just might have solved my noisy chattering transport last night. More later, but thanks for the comments.

The reason I like the dual RCA outputs is because all three of my systems have tube gear which usually doesn't have bass management, so having the dual RCA outputs allows me to run left, and right channels to my amps, and the other pair to my dual subwoofers.

Understood, but couldn’t you still accomplishment the same outcome with Y adapters? I noticed Pangea have these and look to be high quality from the Audio Advisor website. Something to consider.

My erc4 is generally silent. Only on very rare discs, I have a rotation noise at the beginning of the disc But not disturbing to listen I’ve also had the same noise while the disc loads. No big deal on that, but what I have discovered is sometimes a disc will apparently load out of balance and it will chatter throughout the disc. However if I stop play, then hit play again the disc spins quietly, alternatively ejecting the tray, then closing will normally also load the disc correctly and spin quietly. Its a a bit of a crap shoot whether or not a disc will load correctly. It is a PITA to deal with though. It’s possible the transport mechanism was either damaged during shipping or the fastening system vibrated loose in shipping. If correct this would be an easy fix, but no doubt Emotiva would void the warranty if I delved into it. Thanks

This is probably going to be my last post on this particular thread maybe, but I just wanted to give a big shout out to tweed, and to let you know the kind of people here in Emotiva's Lounge. I'll start at the beginning either late November or early December I mentioned here on the forum that my ERC-1 was going out and that I was trying to figure out if I could repair the unit or would I have to replace it. I received info on where I might find a replacement part and I tried to order the loader I have two of them in my cart I'm actually still waiting because the website says they will become available March 1, 2020. During December tweed a lounge member attempted to contact me to inform me he had a ERC-2 sitting around in the box and he offered it to me. Unfortunately I had not been in the lounge so I did not see the message. After waiting for a while with no response from me tweed offered the ERC-2 to another lounge member. Just my luck right. I thanked tweed anyway, and I said that was on me you snooze you lose.
I then decided to purchase a new CD player in March. Creamies did a follow up and inquired if I had ordered the loader I told him I was still stuck in the process but that I was doubtful I would be able to purchase the loaders in March. Tweed saw the post and personal messaged me saying hold the horses that the deal with the other lounge member didn't go through and he offered me the same deal that he would let me have the slightly used ERC-2 for the price of shipping. Of course I'm all in, so it turns out tweed lives in CA I'm in NV, the shipping was $21.78 That was a unbelievably wonderful act of random kindness. The unit has arrived and I'm enjoying it as I write this. That's the kind of members we have here in the lounge. Thanks again Tom I really appreciate this. I hope your kindness is returned tenfold J

My suggestion is for you to Pay It Forward and then you too shall be rewarded. Trust me - It works.

Congratulations on acquiring the new used CDP!! In the meantime after conversations with the good folks at Emotiva they are sending out an advanced replacement due to the noisy transport. While I’ve had it I have to say the ERC-4 sounds awesome aside from some quirky operational issues. Not quite ready to do do a full blown review of this CDP just yet but comparing it to my computer based music server which by any measure is significantly more expensive and complex it holds its own very well. It’s been sometime since I’ve had the ERC-3 but thus far I’m inclined to think the ERC-4 performs/sounds differently yet better. I do do find it curious Emotiva decided to go with a SMPS vs Linear PS like the ERC-3. Unlike others on the forum I’m not opposed to this just curious as to why given keith’s comment in other threads about staying with Linear PS for the BAS-X models vs SMPS. What makes the ERC-4 different in its requirements? Thanks
