Just picked up a ERC-4 from Rick at Audio Alternatives in Fort Collins. Love the sound, full rich, maybe could use some more up top but could be my system. Very quiet when loading cds. I am also streaming Itunes and internet radio via my macbook into a Schitt usb/spdif into the ERC-4 dac. Loving it.

I'm writing to inquire if others have had the same difficult time with Emotiva customer service recently. (I'm posting here b/c my issue is with a CD player - and the OP on this thread posted a similar experience with delay in response to a CD problem.)
I haven't been on this site (Lounge) for quite some time, but with the sudden inability of my Sherbourn CD-1 player to load as of a week ago - and most disappointing the inability of Emotiva CS to get back to me to address this - I decided today to log on and see whether others have had similar issues - both with the technical problem I'm having - and ESPECIALLY with the lack of response from the company. I submitted the on-line request for contact -and immediately received the reflex email 'receipt' informing me that I should hear from someone within 24-48 hours. After radio silence for several days I emailed back again a few times - still no response. I finally called in 2 days ago to speak with someone live. The person I spoke to seemed to be a supervisor b/c he was able to track my ticket and determine that it was in someone's inbox - but other than explaining there is a backlog of work he could not indicate when I would hear from someone.
I have to say that after close to 7 years of happy ownership of several Emotiva products I'm wondering what the heck is going on.

PS (I'm posting immediately after my first post so I won't bother to quote it.)
I am interested too in others' experience with the ERC-4. If i have to buy a new CD player I would consider it - especially b/c I had understood in the past that the ERC-4 was finally going to solve the annoying noise problem of previous models. I'm glad for the OP that 1) he finally heard from Customer Service and 2) that he received a replacement unit that is much quieter - -but of course this raises the question as to whether the ERC-4 did in fact reliably solve the noise issue.
And of course - (sigh) - I suppose I'm still going to have to wait for someone from the company to get back to me... So in the meantime I am interested in hearing folks' experience to date with the ERC-4. Thank you for bearing with my complaining !

After 9 months of intensive use of the ERC4, the player is very reliable with no particular problems. With some CDs there may be more or less operating noise but nothing disturbing. With many CDs, no noise This player associated with the XMC1v3 in RCA link provides real listening pleasure.

I agree, with some CD's its very silent but a few for what ever reason will cause the player to create a chattering type of noise. It seems to be worse in the first two tracks normally. The audio quality however is extremely good. I do use the balanced outputs however given that all of my other equipment is fully differentially balanced as is the ERC-4. I see you have the XMC-1 or perhaps the XMC-2 in which case I am surprised you're also not using the balanced outputs of the player.

............. with some CD's its very silent but a few for what ever reason will cause the player to create a chattering type of noise.................. Same with my ERC-3. I suspect its because some discs are not perfectly round and are out of balance.

Considering a new CD player. Some warranty issues arise, emotiva warranty from a bad CD player, sent in for a warranty issue, and the buyer was sent a b-stock item?
Just curious? I love my xpa-1 amps, and (knock on wood) no issues.
Why home stereo CD players break, so often, and don’t last long, yet the stock gmc junk in my truck has lasted 12+ years w no issues is beyond me.
Should I take a chance on such an expensive CD player?

I am very happy with my ERC-3 over 2 years now. It gets very extensive playing time from my custom made CD's.

You could cheat and pickup a say 1 in and 8 out switched array. I use on in my bedroom. Came free with a cassette deck I bought. I threw away the dead cheapy machine as it was not worth fixing, but the switcher soldiers on!

Should I take a chance on such an expensive CD player? I wasn't aware that CD players break so often. I've owned a lot of them and none of them broke. In my estimation $600.00 for a CD Player that performs as well as the ERC-4 or ERC-3 for that matter is not expensive. One can spend significantly more than this for a stand alone player which may not perform as well or any better. Not sure I understand your lead in first statement above.

I have a erc-4 player. After 5 months it has developed a small problem. The display flickers at times. For the performance of the player its much better in my system than the Cambridge cxc transport was. The erc-4 runs quite and does a very nice job. Its openness is nice and has plenty of punch in the bottom end. Smooth highs and mids.

If the latter, all OLED displays do this to routinely shift and refresh the pixels. I'll catch my RMC-1L doing this same thing every so often...

I like CD players. I really do. But after a while the Laser or some such thing is going to give up. I have a Technics I enjoy very much. Nice build, nice transport. Dead quiet as death itself. I have the Schiit Modius as its DAC. Wasn't thrilled with the 4X DAC in the Technics. I would love to see Emotiva create maybe a combo Network SSD system. CDs as much as I love, kind of like Reel to Reel is getting long in the tooth truthfully. Like a 4K UHD Bluray. I love them and have my favorites and my Sony does a fine job on them. But truthfully I stream everything. Click and go! I know a streamer maybe a losing proposition, but it would be nice rather than having to use my computer all the time, have a Network streamer that can also access my NAS when the time comes. That would be nice too, but that is easily done on the computer today. Guess I like doing things on the odd banks. CD players to me though nice, I can see no more of an option, but compared to my online or HDD collection, kind of limiting in its scope. I applaud Emotiva for at least making a darn good one you can still buy!

My ERC-1 is still working fine. Love it. I also have several other players that still work great and I can't seem to let them go...Nakamichi OMS-7/Sony CDP-620ESII/Denon DCD-1500II/Sony DVP-S9000ES (SACD). I should probably rotate them in and out or sell them.
The main issue with cd players is when that laser gives up the ghost, it's almost impossible to find parts.

Thanks Doc-1963. Thats exactly what it does. It flickers now and then as it clocks the remaining time. I'm new to this type of display. Its a great looking display and readable from a distance.
