I have a Music Hall MMF-5 turntable. I've been using a mmf-Cruise Control box with it. The other day I put on a record (rare for me these days). The turntable would not rotate. I eliminated the cruise control and went direct to the tt with the 16vac supply. The tt turns, but too fast (Sinatra sounds like Frankie Valli). You would think that if the motor were bad, it would either not run or run slow. The belt looks good and is on the correct pulley. What do you think?

If it reads ok, you’ve probably got a bad motor Bill

Can't get a probe on it easily because of the connector, but I have another ps of the same rating from another tt. Same result - runs fast! Replacing motor may cost as much as a new tt! I hate to lose equipment like this! Going backwards. (found replacement motor on Music Hall parts site for $58.88 - that's better than 4 or 5 hundred for a new tt).

Parts for my old turntable were readily available on Ebay, but I put it away before getting to that point. Music hall guarantee the motor?

Eh - not sure. It's actually a third party company called Bluz Broz. Their return policy is 35% restocking fee and they have 30 day warranty, but lots of ifs and whatevers including sending the part back to you with shipping charges if damaged. a little risky, maybe!

Won’t hurt to check out Ebay. If you come up with the right seller and you also get buyer protection. Of course no returns on electrical parts is pretty standard.

When using the Cruise Control, the 45 RPM pulley is utilized. I know you indicated the belt is on the correct pulley, but if not, this might be the problem.

I've used it for quit some time with the cruise control set to 33 and the belt on the smaller pulley dia and it has always worked fine. I'll try that anyway but I have low expectations on that being a solution.

O.K. I moved the belt to the 45 pulley, checked the manual for the Cruise Control 2.0 and you are correct, it tells you to set it on the 45 pulley. However, speed is still fast and warbley too. I didn't tell the entire story. I had the original Cruise Control 1.0 (a smaller box with no 120v option) and that is the unit that (I think) has failed. But I bought a new Cruise Control 2.0 and just connected it in place of the old one. Turntable wouldn't turn at all with the old one and does turn with the new one, but as I said speed is too fast an there is a warble or jitter. So I think the motor went bad perhaps from strain if I had it on the wrong pulley for a long time. Thanks for your input.
