I was thinking about how well CDs would sell if they were marketed in the same size packaging as LPs. Would be great to have the bigger artwork and liner notes .. have a little plastic ziplock sleeve to slide the cd into and drop into the outer jacket. Or maybe not. Lol
It's way too late for all of this anyway.

I've thought the same thing for many years probably a couple of decades even. Packing for the vast majority of CD's seemed like hokey after thought with the cheap plastic cases where hinges were always breaking. The industry could have done better and in a few cases some releases were done with class. I always favored the trifold versions made from high quality card stock with the plastic retainer in the middle fold. Not sure I would have wanted album size versions but something a bit larger would have been nice, even sizing them like DVD/Blu Ray would have been much better.
One never knows though, CD's might make a resurgence much like vinyl albums have in the last several years. After some 20 years of running computer based music servers, I'm just about over it at this point. It has become way too complex and rife with so many things that can go wrong on a daily basis so speaking for myself the thrill is long gone with streaming and computer audio. Most days I set in front of a computer working with Photoshop and Lightroom and the last thing I want to do in the evening is jump into the same thing on behalf of music.
So lately I've been having fun playing with CD's and SACD's again.

I'd just like to be able to get the security stickers of the freekin thing so I can get it opened without busting the case!

Yes, I still like CDs .. I don't enjoy a digital download like an actual physical version..
Yes, those tri-folds are great. It think they're knows as digi-paks in the industry

The CD packaging was chosen specifically because it is compact - and so easy to store and ship. A few albums have been released in a "deluxe package" that consists of an album-sized book with multiple CDs.... (However, for whatever reason, they seem more common in European releases than in US versions...)
[EDIT] I'm going to add something here.....
I have the "earbook" version of one of their previous albums.
Yes, it's very pretty, and it looks cool... And it's got lots of pretty color pictures... And text you can read... But it doesn't fit on the shelf with my other CDs...
So, on balance, it is more of a nuisance than a benefit - at least to me.

They should of put the CD into its own sleeve like a 5 and 1/4 floppy disc. Waalllaaaa no more scratched CDs. I still say there's a market for MP3 on 5 and 1/4 inch discs. I'm sure we could market them to the "vinyl" guys.

That's more along the lines I was thinking.
