Hi, all. I'll try to make this quick to save everyone time. I'm not super technical, so apologies if this is a "no-brainer" to most.
I have a second-hand Adcom GFA 6000 I've been rocking for over 10 years. Would it be a true upgrade if I bought the A-5175 currently on closeout?
Processor is a second-hand XMC-1 with updated boards (replaced my UMC-1 I bought new), speakers are B&W CM6 (old ones, circa 2002-ish), B&W CMC (again, early 2000s), and some even older B&W 202 (I think) rears.
I have some Tyler Accoustics PD15s in the basement I got for about 10 cents on the dollar, but the Adcom doesn't have the grunt to push them (no surprise, really). I'm going save them for a two channel system if I'm ever able to go that route.
Or do I have it all twisted? Should I be focusing upgrade money elsewhere?
All advice is much appreciated.
Richard

Richard If it sounds good to you, that is, clean power, no noticeable distortion or clipping, I’d be inclined to keep what you have. The front channels on the 5175 only have slightly more ACD power (all channels driven), the rears would get about double the power, so on material with a lot of surround they’d have a little more punch if you pushed them. If you think the Adcom is on its last legs maybe, but they make a good amp. Speakers would make a bigger difference, though I like B&W’s too. I found the specs here: www.manualslib.com/manual/206143/Adcom-Gfa-6000.html?page=12#manual

Keep the Adcom, but get a two channel amp for the mains.

Yep I agree keep the Adcom, maybe also get the Emotiva A300 for the demanding drives up front.

Thanks, all! Genuinely appreciate it.
This now makes me toy with the idea of maybe getting an XPA-2 and pulling the Tyler Accoustics PD15s out of the basement. Then run the center and rears with the Adcom. I planned to pull the trigger on a quality 2 channel amp at some point and I've been doing quite a bit of 2 channel listening lately. Maybe now's the time!
