Ok, first off I was immediately impressed. Totally subjective because I installed it and that was the first time I listened on that day. I guess the main thing I noticed is a kind of "presence". You know like when you used to go to a high end store and they have a room with some kit going, and it sounds really good to you, even though the volume low, and you're not sure what is making the music.
Everything seems crisper, especially the bass. The high end seems to be more defined as well, with better atmosphere. I used Moby's Play album focusing on Everloving, A-Bing with the CD in my ERC-3. Guess what? Pretty darn close! Then I listened to Alanis Morrisette, Unplugged, Princes Familiar. There I noticed more detail and a slight sibilance which I think may actually be present. Not sure, I don't have the disc for that one, but vs raw out from AppleTV, definitely an improvement. Some of you may know those songs are on Andrew Robinson's demo list, and I think rightly so. The fact that I like those songs helps me dig into exactly what I am hearing.
Then I played the soundtrack to Marie Antionette, directed by Sophia Coppola. Now I think this movie went right over a lot of people's heads, but that is another discussion. There's a great variety of music on there for fans of pop and classical. This gave me better idea of the range of instruments and tonal action, and here again, I was impressed. In a word, involving. What I find to be nice background music became, "hey wait, let me sit down, turn it up, and listen!"
Maybe the crispness and authority is simply the correction of the output signal, which is exactly what the Remedy is supposed to do. For anyone listening to Apple Music, via an optical out AppleTV, this is probably worth a try. Mine was $299, plus a little shipping, no tax. In my opinion, at present, I am very happy with this device. It also looks really cool, because I turned mine on its side so that the cursive symbol on the top can be seen (glowing in blue) in front of the rack. There's a good feeling when it looks cool, too.
Anyway, for what it's worth, thanks.
