I've had four of these for a year now from the last big sale, still in box. They will go up once the drywall and painting are complete in the new home build. I'll hook them up to my stereo rig just to make sure they're okay... Then back in the box they go until my basement HT is finally done... That’s exactly what I’ve been doing as I’ve been putting together everything for the new house. Hope to be in by XMAS. Lately I’ve been buying speaker pairs for the new Media Room and playing them with my Marantz 40n. I leave them hooked up and occasionally listen to them until the next pair arrives. Then I hook up the new ones and box the old. I’ve got one more pair to buy for that room then be done. I’ll still need two pairs of ceiling speakers for the patio(s) and a really good pair for the Great Room. I’ll probably go with Focals for those. The Media Room will be 100% Martin Logan’s.

Post Emofest purchase: 2 Pairs of Airmotiv XA2's. Finally going to a 9.3 setup. 9.3? Maybe you meant 5.3.4? I have: L,C,R Mains L,R Side Surrounds L,R Front Height L,R Rear Height 3, Subwoofers Doesn’t that make it 9.3?

If you had: L,C,R Mains L,R Side Surrounds L,R Back Surrounds L,R Front Heights 3 Subwoofers That could also mean 9.3. But calling what you have a 5.3.4 system makes it clear exactly what speakers you have. My example would be called 7.3.2

I just bought a pair of these older JBL L1's off a local on Craigslist for a song and dance. A few cabinet scuffs that I polished up with some black shoe cream. They look like new. Although they are from 1993ish, I'm mighty impressed with the sound these babies produce. I always liked that "West Coast" sound growing up here in So Cal, good to hear it again. Mates well with Emo gear for sure

Swapped in the new ATL-6.5s on the patio. All I can say is Wooooooow! Great sound! If anyone needs patio speakers, you might want to jump on these before they’re gone.

Xeric NASA Artemis Meca-Quartz Chronograph. I buy maybe one watch a year, if something catches my eye. I have a couple NASA-themed Xeric watches and they are very nice. This one also has a tachymeter function ... and I might someday figure out how to work that. Very nice gray brushed stainless steel case and bracelet.

Wholeheartedly agree, I put 2 pairs on our deck and the fullness of sound blew me away. Forgive the sloppy wires, I'm not done routing them yet.

Well about face on this. Getting the F8. Better display, controls, power flexibility and more channels of course. Just like a shopper!

Thanks man! It was about 6 weekends of working 10 hour days (me and a friend with no scaffolding until we set the ridge) My wife has the pic of me holding the ridge beam (4X10 - not 3.5X9.125) in place by hand. Scott

Well I have had my MR1L for about a month now and there is both good and bad news...overall sound quality is excellent, auto eq i really don't much care for. After many attempts to get an acceptable balance I erased all curves I had generated and started working it manually and eventually getting a more satisfactory curve than the auto-eq offered. So that is the first problem. Next, after having weird gliches during operation, I realized its basically a computer with a few amplifiers living with it. The processor is really buggy. I lose audio in the middle of watching something for no reason...power off and reboot and it works like normal. That is not the kind of bad behavior I expected. It reminds me of Windows XP where XP stands for extra problems. The pops and such that occur when changing sources are really annoying. The workaround is to hit the mute button before changing sources. That is something that should be fixable with a firmware upgrade. I installed the latest firmware available and it didnt help the problem at all. Then there is the problem that occurs when I leave the unit on overnight and attempt to get it to play content the next morning. It seems if you leave it on with no signal input for any relatively long period it refuses to send audio to the amplifiers without rebooting the unit first. Then there is an issue with seeing the receiver menus displayed on the screen as an overlay to whatever program material I am watching. There doesnt seem to be a way to do that if I use the Earc output on the tv and feed it directly into the Earc input on the MR1L. I cannot make adjustments to the system while I am sourcing programming thru the smart tv (samsung) which makes on the fly adjustments impossible unless its a direct function available on the remote. Like adjusting rear surround levels or sub levels. So I am a bit disenchanted with the user friendliness, but then there may be a configuration that would clear up the problem but I don't have a clue what it might be.

what would that be, voyeurism? :-) I admire your taste, wish that was affordable and that I had the time to invest to make that pay off.

I'm at it again! Total system revamp... I think my best investment for overall sound quality is the Roon Nucleus One, that took my streaming audio quality to another level. Then streaming, I wanted a network bridge, no DAC and external power supply. I looked at quite a few, and went with the Volumio Rivo and added the Farad Super 3 linear power supply. I also have a WiiM Ultra in the mix, and I really enjoy this streamer, as it works flawlessly with the Roon Nucleus One. But, sadly it cannot touch the sound quality of the Rivo/Farad/Roon setup. Amp, preamp and DAC, I went with the ToneWinner AD-2PRO+ integrated and then went and purchased the ToneWinner AD-1PRE+ preamp/DAC for the added connections it afforded. My good friend bought the same two units and compares them to Mark Levinson gear he has owned in the past, he was totally blown away at the sound quality. His world, not mine, his house looks like a hi end hifi shop, he is single and retired. I will take his word on this. The DAC in this AD-1PRE+ and the AD-2PRO+ is what really blew us both away. We have had several PS Audio units, Bel Canto, several Denafrips, GD Audio, EverSolo, Emotiva, and others, and this ToneWinner DAC/Pre combo crushed them all. No clue what ToneWinner is doing under the hood, the best we can figure is that there is some DSP magic going on. They are staying. Speakers! My latest accusation is a pair of Fyne Audio F500SP in mahogany. These are gorgeous speakers, both in looks and sound. I also went with the SolidSteel speaker stands in the raw finish. I also have my Magnepan LRS+ in the mix too, powered with a pair of Fosi ZA3 amps in mono. Something about these Maggies and Class D amps. These silly little Fosi's are very detailed and really drive these LRS+ with ease. I am committing a bit of audio sacrilege here, as I am using a pair of Emotiva XLR splitters to feed both the ToneWinner and Fosi amps simultaneously. The volume levels are quite different, and Maggies are lower due to their sensitivity, and act more like a super tweeter in regards to effects. The sound is quite honestly very striking, played together the sound envelopes the room, and the sound stage is huge. Then the instrument separation, you can hear every instrument, no congestion, just clarity, very impressive combo with the ToneWinner DAC and Volumio Rivo streamer. I discovered this dual speaker trick by accident when using my Zu DW6 Supremes with this ToneWinner amp, as it can drive two sets of speakers. I had the Maggies and the Zu's both hooked up and accidentally hit "Speaker A + B", and have not looked back. I added the Fosi amps so as not to stress the ToneWinner with the Maggies. I also sold off the SVS SB3000 subs and went with a trio of the REL T-Zero MKIII subwoofers. Yes, the little tiny 6 inch driver subs. I have them strategically positioned throughout the listening area. These things are the bomb for two channel listening. These are definitely keepers. There is much more, mainly little tweaks here and there, mainly in regards to power supplies and cables, which all made an audible difference. ;-)

I'm pretty impressed with this really inexpensive sim driving rig! It seems like a great value. No, it's not absolutely rigid, but it's configurable enough for fun, and it's in the bargain basement range of price considering it has a seat that's very comfortable.
