This is a great discussion about preamp sound with the founding genius of MBL. Boomzilla pay attention.

I agree with Mr. Reis WHOLEHEARTEDLY. My experience is that EVERYTHING in the preamp has an audible effect on the sound - Solid wire vs. stranded - Wiring layout - Capacitor types - Resistor types - Jacks, even. I'm not talented enough to create a circuit from scratch (except maybe with a simple tube circuit), but once I have a good design to work from (the Dynaco PAS was a good example), I can tell by listening what components combine to produce the sound I want.

My bros never ending evolution of his audio gears. That's some serious audio artillery. Very cool.

Simple - He is not measuring all the right things. He must retain a measure of mysticism in his uber expensive products.

I don't have to post here to tell myself things. What a ridiculous thing to say! MBL, if they really believe this nonsense would do well to give each unit of their products a name like we do for humans, since everyone thinks that each human is unique. The could probably get even more money if they sold you Johnaton, your own individual unique preamplifier.

Every audio show that I went MBL speakers (if present) always are the best sounding.

I think Mr. Reis is very competent. One can quibble with the pricing of the products (or not), but I don't think that design competence is an issue. Now that's just my opinion, and you're welcome to think that the guy is a hack if you want - your own business.
But I do think that the products he designs sound VERY good. The fact that I can't afford them doesn't prompt me to cry "sour grapes," and it shouldn't you either. I also like McIntosh equipment (but couldn't afford any of it, unless it was used).
Now if we wish to debate performance vs. price, that's a very different discussion...

Every audio show that I went MBL speakers (if present) always are the best sounding. Heard 'em 2x. Not the BEST at the show but did do several things very well. Filled the space and were very 'enveloping'..... But those MBL amps? Need a fork-lift to move 'em into my house! Good luck if you need 'em up OR down a flight of stairs.....

Who uses a potentiometer as a volume control these days? Ancient technology. Resistor ladder networks rule.

My 1970s Kenwood had a stepper control. Nice and repeatable.
But don't sell 'regular' potentiometers short!
I'd replace the level controls (pots) in my Parasound amps with a resistor ladder in a heartbeat IF I could source one that would fit......
