Last few years I have been somewhat scarce on the forum, but with my full retirement (finally) and selling my house of 25 years I have more time to devote to my music. Unfortunately for the next four months I am in a small apartment waiting for my retirement home to be built with only headphones and a Fiio DAP player and my phone with Amazon Music HD for tunes. Just before I sold my house I was able to locate on Craigslist a pair of Legacy Audio Classic Speakers from 2008 for a good price. I am really missing them at the moment. I fear that this new purchase will lead to audio upgradeitis when I really don't have as much disposable income as previously. Prices on audio equipment have really gone up in the last two years. I kind of promised the wife that my search for the ultimate audio system on my limited budget would end with my full retirement. However, since the virus quarantine I find a great deal of my time is devoted to researching and dreaming about the best bang for your buck budget friendly audio gear. Thinking of changing out either my XSP 1 gen 1 or my XPA-200 or both. Any recommendations ? Matthew

Matthew I know you’re probably just kicking ideas around, but I’d wait until you get everything setup in your new place and you can start listening with your speakers again. Get your room and placement as dialed in as possible and you may find you don’t need much, and if you do, you’ll have a better idea what you’re looking for or want to change. Congratulations on retirement, it’s really a great time of life!

So you're saying you got the speakers? Because if you have, I would just recommend you get that! I used the UPA-2 (not UPA-200) for many years and the XPA-200 is basically the slightly upgraded version of it. I'll tell you that as you know your amp sounds great! If I was going to upgrade, I would go with a Emotiva PA-1 nonoblocks. I have been able to compare the two and I think it's a real upgrade and one of the best amps I've heard at a great price.

Yes, I bought the speakers. Love them ! Thanks for recommendation on the mono blocks. I have not heard class d amps. Some folks suggest that you need a tube preamp to "warm" up the sound characteristics on class d. The Legacy Classics are a bit more forward sounding then my DIY Jasmine two way speakers I had built for me by an electrical engineer a few years. I am concerned that class d amps might be too bright for my Classics. Matthew

Will definitely wait till the new house is finished and I will try out different combinations of components in the new man cave. I had two systems in old house. Music room and the family room. Sold most of the family room system, but kept a few pieces. In the old house I had the HT system tied in to stereo system through the XSP - 1 using the Emo XPA-200 for the front speakers. In the new house they will will be two separate systems. Thanks on the congratulations. Matthew
