Dual Mono is when Left and Right Sub outputs are used. This is all helpful for setting up to try to duplicate what's going on. Dirac shouldn't affect something like what you describe. It's a DTS movie I'm assuming? I'll check it out. Yes. An awful movie named Monster Hunter in the most recent instance. A disadvantage of phantom center is being unable to set its level (unless you have something like a Theta) Thanks I'm not coming up with anything other than the usual BMbug (+4dB elevated bass below the XO of Small channels). I ran REW and saw the same as I'm used to seeing. I used Surround and dts Neural:X with similar results. Then I played The Dark Knight and from past experience I knew to keep the volume low, just in case. I set the volume lower than what is needed to clearly understand dialogue, then played scenes with max SPL and the SPL meter went from about 60dB to 88dB. So while REW didn't show any extra problem, the movie seemed to. The Dark Knight has an extremely bass-heavy soundtrack so I'll need to reset the system for how it normally is setup and get a fresh listen. I'll do some more stuff tomorrow.

Yesterday, the RMC-1L was suddenly not able to provide any signal from my AppleTV 4K device. I switched then the AppleTV from HDMI output 1 to HDMI output 2 and it worked again. However, HDMI output 1 was stuck to DolbyVision 4K, no matter what source device I connected. No reboot, power off etc could help. I had to do a full factory reset and restore my backup to make it work again. It seems like the RMC-1L was somehow stuck in an error it could not fix without factory reset. I have no idea, why this was the case, after several months running fine. Are you sure your TV isn’t set on DolbyVision? The best settings are 4K SDR, with Match Frame Rate and Dynamic Range ON, then it will switch to the appropriate setting when needed (including DV). If it is set to DV, it will always output DV, regardless of the source. Edit: I missed that HDMI 1 was still DV even when the TV was in HDMI 2, that is odd. Did you try switching DV on and off on the TV while plugged into HDMI 1? Moot point if you did a reset. There might be some interesting settings I should try on the TV. Thanks for the information. The problem really was, that the HDMI input 1 was stuck on DV, even after I switched the TV to HDMI input 2. When I connected other source systems to HDMI input 1 (such as Chromecast etc.), I did not get an image at all. So there have been multiple devices connected to HDMI input 1 which did not provide a Dolby Vision signal. Anyhow, I could solve the problem by going through a factory reset of the RMC-1L and restore the backup. It's not a nice user experience, that I wish Emotiva would solve by a better software code for the RMC-1 series. The HDMI board still seems to be a little bit messy...

What seems to be happening is that there is insufficient center channel level being mixed into the mains. I have a couple of thoughts on this. I have some gain added on the mains through level trim. One would hope that the mix happens before the trim is applied. Also, a truly ugly but presumably effective workaround would be to reactivate the center channel in setup, then passively mix it in using 3 daisy chained y cables. I am already using a version of this hack to get a mono rear channel. Then the center level control would be active.

Seems that might help solidify the image and help with a phantom center. 🤷♂️

I am already using a version of this hack to get a mono rear channel. Then the center level control would be active. If nothing else presents itself, this would be an interesting experiment. I could even have someone make me up a custom 'M' cable assembly. Intuitively this should present no more issue to the Emotiva from a hardware standpoint than the Y I am using for the back surround, but I would want someone from Emotiva to weigh in before attempting it. Edit: on second thought this seems bad, as left and right would effectively be connected together via the common connection to the center. Some kind of isolation would be needed.

I found an interesting setting, DTS Dialog Control. Has anyone played around with it!

I wasn't able to really experience what I'm guessing you are experiencing, or maybe I still don't quite understand fully. But, the overall volume of the system while setup for No Center is much lower volume level vs when I put the Center Channel back and make the Center Sub LFE again like I normally have it setup. And this is with User EQ, not Dirac, so I wasn't mixing in an extra variable. While setup for phantom center I was watching a movie with fairly poor center channel dialogue volume, The Dark Knight, and I thought is sounded pretty normal for that movie. So at the moment I'm not much help here.

Thanks for the attempt. I am expecting this is highly dependent on the films in question. I guess I need to decide if it is enough of an annoyance to cause me to play with workarounds. I do wish Emotiva offered phantom center level adjust, but there must be far too few folks running in that mode to make it worthwhile. The DTS Dialog adjustment made no difference in this case.

bradleyaudio… Just so you know, “DTS Dialog Control” only works for DTS:X encoded discs and, of those, only discs that are specifically authored to support that feature. Otherwise, as you’ve already discovered, it has no effect.

I'm currently using a pair of Klipsch R-15PM powered speakers for surrounds and a second pair for rears. Both use SVS Soundpath wireless adapters to get the signal from the RMC-1 to the speakers.
The speakers will turn off automatically if they don't get a signal. The rears have been turning off when I stream content from Netflix/Prime/Kodi but the surrounds stay on. I've swapped the speakers around and both pairs do it which leads me to believe that the RMC-1 isn't using Dolby Surround Upmixing to create the rear speaker signal.
I'll try to watch a movie tonight to see if its only a streaming issue or if its all 5.1 sources.
If the speakers were not powered I don't know how you'd notice this without just standing by one of the rears during the movie. Anyone else notice this?

The problem is that the main dialog needs to be rendered as an “object”. Considering that most studios aren’t willing to put the effort into a really “great” immersive mix, don’t hold your breath waiting for something that takes even more time and effort… 😂

Anyone out there with Verizon Fios cable service having any unusual audio quirks when using an RMC-1? Such as:
1. When watching a recorded tv program, will get a high pitched whine when pushing the play button on the Fios remote after fast forwarding or rewinding the program? Does not happen all the time but it happens enough to where I do not want to use the RMC when watching a recorded tv program. I get rid of the noise by switching inputs. I'm wondering if it could have anything to do with changing audio format from the regular program to a commercial and/or back again. All is fine when watching the program itself. This just happens when trying to fast forward/rewind through the commercial break.
2. On a very few occasions when switching from another input (say AppleTV) to the tv input will get an extremely fast "clicking" noise. It almost sounds like a relay or some mechanical device opening and closing very fast. Once again changing inputs will get rid of the noise.
3. I only mention this one because it is so unusual but happens only very infrequently (only a couple of times). I will be pushing buttons on the Fios remote and all of a sudden the RMC-1 will turn off. Just as if I had pushed the Standby button. May be just the right combination of buttons pushed at the right time.
All of the above is only when watching Fios tv. Either a live program or a recording. The first one above is the most bothersome. I have tried different settings in the Fios cable box as well as the RMC but nothing seems to stop what is happening. At least I have not come up with the right combination.
Not sure if anything can be done about these issues. None of them would make me want to get rid of the RMC. All other sources are working fine and am very happy with the way things are working, other than with the cable programs.
Keith had not heard of any of the above when I reported these to Emotiva, but he did say that they have had other issues with Fios. Just thought I would put these out there in case someone else had run into something like the above.
Take care,
Steve A.

…When watching a recorded tv program, will get a high pitched whine when pushing the play button on the Fios remote after fast forwarding or rewinding the program? I don’t have fios and am somewhat envious of the Internet speed that must come with it, but is the high pitch whine constant, or does it modulate with the audio? The later has been around for some time with various names (I call it digital hair), it’s also fixed with a mode change.

Just the whine. It is the same volume level as the audio was set at, but it takes the place of the normal audio.

It used to happen very frequently after skipping etc, but firmware updates have all but eliminated it. I called it a "digital tone".

"digital tone" does sound like a better description of what I am hearing.
Were the firmware updates for the TiVo or for your XMC-2?

TiVo is very well known for not updating their firmware, so, no, it's not from TiVo. It was with each Emotiva G3P Firmware update that the problem went from really annoying to pretty minimal now. It mostly happens while in VRO (Video Remains On) Standby, not so much while powered on. Also, it ONLY happens when using Dolby Audio in the TiVo. When using PCM it never happens.

Not that much stuff I record on tv that I need to use my home theater for. Thanks for the response.
