I figured I’d try running Dirac again for my XMC2 and bring it upstairs again. A painful process that I don’t look forward to.
Ummm…where is the bass? Dirac seems to not do a good job with subs. But the mids and highs sound really nice.

But the mids and Higgs sound really nice. You must have something wrong with your Dirac setup/cal. Or… You have gotten used to some big peaks that flat(ter) bass sounds less for you. Does it still sound low if you use Harman +4 or +6? Personally I can’t use more than +6 or the bass will certainly be too much. Especially music, or I should say some music really. I use Harman +6 for movies. This gives some real impact when something happens. For music +4 generally sounds really good. But on some music it needs to be higher and sometimes even lower. Some music even needs a flat bass curve to sound best. It’s much easier to do a multichannel setup in this regard. The levels of bass does not vary as much IMO. I always have the same setting for all movies. Only one or two movies have ever had ”too much” bass in this setting. But then I have the Harman +4 for those occasions.

I had to turn the volume up significantly for movies on my PB16 vs the level that was used to measure and now it seems like it’s ok. For music, it seems a bit lacking. I don’t think my 2 different subs are working well together. Maybe I shouldn’t use ARO before Dirac for my F113. I’ll need to experiment with both and hope Dirac runs are consistent. Also, I think you are right. With no room correction (just PEQ on the PB16 and ARO on the JL F113), I was getting used to higher levels of bass. EDIT: found the problem. It’s this E.L.F. trim on the F113. Now the bass is fine. This was a good Dirac run, sounds very good.

Exactly... and, just for the record, this is "an industry standard"... and has been for a very long time. Please help me settle a dispute with a brother. When setting up a 5.1 system. Should the rear speakers be plugged in as "Surrounds" or "Rears", Right and Left. I think the RMC1L has the "Rears" marked as "Back" or RBK & LBK? We use, "All Stereo", DTS, Dolby Digital and occasionally Surround sources. Thank you In a 5.1 setup, they are "surrounds" no matter whether they are beside the main seating location or behind. "Backs" (aka "Rears") only apply to a 7.1 setup. In a 7.1 setup, you would have "surround" and "back/rear" channels.

I see a couple of brand new Dirac specific videos posted on Youtube by Emotiva today.
Fingers crossed that this is a sign that good things are on the doorstep

In a 7.1 setup, you would have "surround" and "back/rear" channels. Well.. ”Rear Surround”, yes but not ”Rears”. Which btw says ”L BACK” and ”R BACK” on the unit!? ”Wide”, yes but not ”Width”.. Which says ”L WIDTH” and ”R WIDTH” on the unit. Dolby seems to call them just ”Surround” when placed on the sides. So I stand corrected here. All the added surround speakers just have numbers after them. There seem to be three main names, ”Surround”, ”Rear Surround” and ”Center Surround”. If you have a huge setup you have several of these three with just a number set to them. This is explained in the Dolby Atmos installation guide.

To be honest at this point I'll take, "rear back left surround" as a labeling, as long as we get a firmware release update. Firmware update as in info on the firmware and not the actual firmware release...

People you really need to watch that second video.
Wow are you kidding me. I have been leaving the levels in and my heights were 10.5db down. No wonder I barely heard anything coming from them. I am getting stubborn in my older age. Normally I would have left no stone unturned. But now I just trust what I think is right too much without asking questions.
I am sure this will make a huge difference. I am actually stunned I was living with it like I had it for so long. Yikes!!!!!
Thanks for the videos. Much appreciated. Now we need a firmware to make me really happy 😁

I normally don't use Youtube so not familiar with how to find something. I was able to scan through a whole bunch of Emotiva videos but could not find anything that was new. Must be an easier way than scrolling through video after video. Thanks much. Appreciate any help. Best Regards.

Thanks, I’ve added these to the resources page in the Dirac Thread (2nd post). Since the Dirac thread is now harder to find, those who use it regularly may want to Bookmark it. The Dirac Live Thread

Since the Dirac thread is now harder to find, those who use it regularly may want to Bookmark it. The Dirac Live ThreadAnd why is it not showing up in Newest Threads anymore? I just made a post in hopes to bump it into Newest Threads but it didn't. Is there a way to make that happen? Otherwise it's buried, as you already know and so thoughtfully made your suggestion, which I've done.
