It’s just not always easy with Atmos. Revel doesn’t even make Atmos speakers but I’ve lowered the priority on Atmos since my XMC2 is in my family room now and Atmos is not possible without getting a possible divorce 🥹. Yeah I agree. I upgraded all my speakers to PSA 210/110s. They don’t make in-ceiling speakers though. I currently have RSL ceiling speakers which are only in the high 80s for sensitivity. Everything is powered by an XPA-11, so I don’t think it’s an amp issue. I think I’ll just have to look at upgrading my ceiling speakers eventually to higher sensitivity ones. I’ve been looking at Klipsch Pro 180RPC-LCR which have a nice 45 degree angle for aiming at the MLP and are really high sensitivity.

How do you like the PSA speakers? Compared to any you've had before?

Looking at the center subwoofer speaker setup, LFE is not an option. Only Mono and None. Any idea how to get it back? I think it went away when I upgraded the firmware to 2.5.

You have to have at least one sub set for bass management if you have any speakers set to small or LFE center will not be an option. Setting the left for mono should bring it back.

How do you like the PSA speakers? Compared to any you've had before? I love the PSA speakers, they play loud and clear. Excellent dynamics and separation. The center channel is a beast, with super clear dialogue that blends really with the mains. I upgraded from Infinity R263s and before that I had Polk Monitor 70s. I’m really happy with the PSAs and don’t see myself upgrading from them anytime soon. I’m primarily movies/tv with maybe 20% music. I think they sound great for music too but I’m certainly no audiophile when it comes to that stuff. So with all that said, in my very subjective opinion, I would highly recommend them. They sound great with an XMC-2/XPA-11!

How do you like the PSA speakers? Compared to any you've had before? I don't have a huge database of previous speakers to compare to, just a few cheper budget speakers, but I just finished upgrading all my 7 bed layer speakers to PSA...wow! These things are incredible. I now have such a cohesive and enveloping surround sound experience that sounds great and can get loud! The nice thing is they are so efficient I can run Dirac and still have plenty of headroom to turn them up even louder than before.

I am using a Roku Ultra and on a movie that should have Atmos my display show "DD Surround and DD+ 5.1", there is sound from my uppers.
How can I tell if my XMC-2 is playing Atmos or just upmixing?

If you're getting DD+/Atmos at the input, your XMC-2 will display " DD+ x.1" as the incoming audio stream and " Atmos" as the decoding mode. If your XMC-2 is displaying "DD Surround" as the decoding mode, it's upmixing. If so, there's either no Atmos metadata coming in from your Roku (it's not Atmos audio) or there's a configuration issue at play.

I have an Issue that has persisted over many firmware updates. Mono Blu ray discs will not up mix. The Searchers is a movie I watch a few times a year. The Blu Ray has a mono DTS audio track. I have a 7.1.6 setup and I only get sound from the center speaker. When I try other audio modes on the RMC1 the audio drops altogether. this has been going on for all of the years I have owned the RMC1. I just set one of my players to LPCM and then all is fine on the Audio side. But a weird bug, and I don't recall this subject coming up in this forum.
Also not a player issue as it happens if using My Sony 1000es, My oppo 203, & 83

How does CEC work on the XMC-2? I was hoping that powering on the XMC-2 would power on the TV, but it seems it only works the other way. Powering on the TV, turns on the XMC-2. Is this normal or am I missing something?

Is this normal or am I missing something? CEC is a "downstream" bus from the controller. On this party line, there can only be one "controller" and that is almost always the sink device (your display). So yes, the behavior that you're currently experiencing is normal and cannot work in reverse.

I've got the movie Zero Hour which is mono, and only plays sound through the Center channel while using Auto (DD Surround), or DD Surround, no other channels play sound in any mode. This is with the Panasonic UB820 setup for Bitstream. When I change the audio to PCM, using the following modes, the sound will come from only the listed channels: Auto (Surround), Surround, dts:Neural:X, Direct: Center Channel Stereo, or Reference Stereo: L&R Channels All Stereo: All Channels in the system including ATMOS Heights As an aside, Zero Hour is the basis, some scenes word for word, for the movie "Airplane!". The rights to Zero Hour were purchased solely for its script because the Zucker brothers and Jim Abrahams hadn't ever written a movie before. I played both movies, the original first, on a Movie Night!, and those of us who are very familiar with Airplane! couldn't stop laughing while watching Zero Hour!

This is just anecdotal, but I left my XMC-2 in VRO mode while I was away on a trip. It was not turned on for 3 ½ weeks. When I turned it on everything sounded louder … like by 5-6db at least. I never listen at -20 … always -16 or -14. But even at -20 it sounded LOUD. I did a long press reboot and it came up … no sound at all. Changed inputs … no sound. Long press reboot … Err: Init EDA2. Hard reboot …. Levels all back to normal.
I've thought for a long time - and others have speculated - that there are some processes that are not cleaning up after themselves properly. And the longer a processor is on, the more likely bad behavior will ensue. In this case, a unique situation of leaving it in VRO with supposedly no activity ... and yet it turns on in a different state of operation.

What is a “long press reboot? What is its purpose? Russ Hold the power button 6 seconds and the processor restarts. If the processor freezes this might reset it. But it is not the same as turning off the power switch, or unplugging the line cord a couple minutes.

Yes, the unit needs to be powered off and on periodically imho. In the 3+ years I had this unit, I think I’ve done about 2-3 power cycles for performance and about 20-30 to get the HDMI/CEC to reset.

marclI like your Long Press Reboot: LPR In the past, we've used Six Second Shutdown, but I like LPR better. It better describes the end to end action of shutting down, then restarting. So, a reboot with one minute of wait time would be LPR60.

Here is an interesting one. I also leave mine on in VRO mode and I went downstairs today and saw it was restarting but not progressing (not sure how long it was like that). Tried to reboot it and same thing. Also unplugged it and all cables and waited a couple hours while I did other things, came back and same thing. It won’t even boot up. The progress bar makes it right to the very end of the word EMOTIVA and then hangs. Thoughts/suggestions? Is a facory reset needed to be forced or any other options? Ugh. I’ve emailed Emotiva support.
