.... Is a facory reset needed to be forced or any other options? Ugh. I’ve emailed Emotiva support. Unfortunately, your unit needs to boot before you can perform a factory reset. If you have unplugged it from the main power and waited ~15 minutes before repowering, then there's nothing more than can be done if it's not completing the boot. If it were me, and if it were convenient, I would call tech support rather than waiting for an email response. They're sometimes a bit slow with the latter...

Here is an interesting one. I also leave mine on in VRO mode and I went downstairs today and saw it was restarting but not progressing (not sure how long it was like that). Tried to reboot it and same thing. Also unplugged it and all cables and waited a couple hours while I did other things, came back and same thing. It won’t even boot up. The progress bar makes it right to the very end of the word EMOTIVA and then hangs. Thoughts/suggestions? Is a facory reset needed to be forced or any other options? Ugh. I’ve emailed Emotiva support. This sort of thing is when I would try the CEC Loopback Test. Turn off the rear power switch. Hold the front power button, keep holding it, turn on rear power switch and keep holding front power button until the front panel display populates with tests listed. Wait two minutes, minimum, absolute minimum. Waiting less time is a waste of your time. After the waiting period, arrow down to the Loopback Test, #4, Right Arrow to initiate it. Wait for results. What's important to know here is that, sometimes, just initializing this test will "reset" "something", and an otherwise inoperable processor will jumpstart itself back into working condition. There is no harm done when invoking this test, so it's not a risky venture. If the Loopback test show any Fails, just go back and try again. Usually a fail will occur if not enough time has elapsed to give the processor time to fully boot all the internal circuits. But, if the test fails multiple times, then this is something to report to Emotiva. To exit the test mode, turn off the rear power switch, wait a minute or two before turning back on. Hope for the best upon power up.

marclI like your Long Press Reboot: LPR In the past, we've used Six Second Shutdown, but I like LPR better. It better describes the end to end action of shutting down, then restarting. So, a reboot with one minute of wait time would be LPR60. As is often the case (and always being ready for another acronym 🤓), I’m right there with you! However … isn’t the action of the PBLP (power button long press) dependent on the standby setting (VRO or LPS)? and also the condition of the G3P? For instance, if my G3P is not ‘locked up’ (or ‘knocked up’ 😮), and in LPS, when I hit the power button it immediately shuts down, if I continue to hold it for six seconds, it remains off (in LPS). If it were in VRO I assume it would restart back to VRO. I’m trying to embrace the LPR, but want to make sure it’s not misleading, to do so (IMO) we need to accept that a ‘restart’ has occurred even when we’re in LPS, when many might consider the unit ‘shutdown’ (and waiting to be restarted). Part of the debate we as users have had might be characterized as, the “Power Savings & Stability” of LPS vs the “Convenience and Instant Gratification” of VRO. I bring this into the conversation because each of us may think of ‘off’ differently, although we probably agree that it’s when the ring around the power button is amber. So, does LPR make more sense than SSS? 🤷♂️ (honestly I find the concept of LPR60 out of scope and would need more convincing how it would be accomplished). I’m just back home from ski season and finally have time with my system again, I just installed 2.5 and had a little time to ramble. ✍️

I actually heard back from them pretty quickly and unfortunately it sounds like it will need to be serviced. Also, although it was in a quality surge protector, simple power outage can cause problems (what is one to do other than maybe ensure it’s in UPS as well)? Will provide an update when I have one. Thanks for the input and have a good weekend.

Pretty disappointed as i always try to take all the precautions to protect my stuff and this happens.

If it makes you (or us) feel any better, there is another well known processor out there that tends to brick itself and/or reboot itself during actual use for reasons that no one can explain. Apparently, not even the manufacturer. At least for us, "we" have the ability to contact the manufacturer directly, explain the problem, troubleshoot with a product expert and, if there is something wrong with the hardware, send it in to them directly for a timely warranty repair. Those owners of that "other" processor don't have this level of support. So hang in there... These things happen, but you'll be taken care of in short order...

True, but the kicker is that they said that damage caused by “external electrical events” are not typically covered under warranty (which apparently includes the power going out), so he is going to get back to me next week after discussing it internally. If it is covered then that is much easier to accept and deal with, but if not, what is one to do? I sure hope this is handled under warranty but that still remains unclear at the moment. Thanks as always though, doc. 🙂

Come to think of it….I’m not so sure it was from when my power had gone out because when you cut the power to the rmc and then put power back to it, it does not automatically try to restart; however, when I went downstairs this morning I saw it was hanging during the startup. Makes me think it may have started up on its own. I may need to run that by them as well.

Thanks as always though, doc. 🙂 They will repair it under warranty (unless of course it is not repairable but that is very unlikely), so I’m relieved. It was also suggested that I consider plugging my surge protector into something like the below product to essentially turn the outlet into a gfci outlet to avoid sudden power off/on situations. My power was out for like 10-15 seconds according to my wife who was still up when it went out so not sure that is what caused my issue but thought it was worth mentioning on here and I bought one anyway since it’s only like $23. Others may want to consider as well if they aren’t plugging into something that requires manual reset before returning power to the devices. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000XVG72G/

It really does get confusing when we consider some of us use LPS vs VRO. So the only time the six second shutdown is required no matter which version of standby is used is when the processor is locked up. A locked up processor will require one of two possible solutions to shut down, six second push of the front power button, and when this doesn't work the only other shutdown solution is to turn off the rear power switch. So many variables. No good acronym.

Support of new (so promised) Formats like DTS.X Pro, new Dolby Surround Engine, elminitation of cross upmixer blocking Solve all existing issues from today.
this is what comes to my mind regarding a future FW Upgrade. Only Emo Team can tell (but so far didn't)

A tome could be written. Or, we could circle back and establish pithy discourse. Brevity IS the soul of wit.
