I've started doing visualizations...
Every day I open my computer, login to Emo-lounge and visualize the appearance of the v3.0 firmware for the RMC-1L. It's become such a ritual. I'm starting to think that when it eventually arrives the sky will be bluer, the clouds more puffy and the wine I'm drinking will taste sweeter, apart from the Merlot which could do with a bit more acidity.
Maybe this week? Brent??
In the meantime I have to deal with the mess that is the release of the iPhone 14. The camera firmware is all messed up and is causing me headaches as I find ways to patch the holes so my own software continues to function.
Onward and upward!!!

I don't think it is bad form to post a link to another forum or site if it is helpful. People review non-Emotiva products here all the time and discuss them as well. I think the only "bad form" for this Lounge is to be rude or impolite, so don't worry about posting your link!

People post link to articles and posts on other forums here all the time... It's perfectly OK to do so (unless it's just obvious "product bashing" or violates some other rule). I'm also going to add one comment here - about the situation in general. In "the good old days" audio signals remained the same for literally decades. Not only were the signals themselves simpler but everyone had plenty of time to figure out how to get everything to work just so. Now compare that to HDMI... Which is literally hundreds or thousands of times more complex than plain old analog audio... And which changes almost from day to day... Draw a timeline that includes composite video, component video, HDMI, HDMI (HD), HDMI (4k), HDMI (4k HDR), and now HDMI (8k)... You'll see that each of those new advances, each of which is more complex, have been coming at an ever faster rate... And then include all of the new surround sound and immersive audio formats which are also appearing at an ever increasing rate... In short.... compared to the past.... things are a lot more complicated and they're also changing much faster. (How long did your last super cool phone last before it became obsolete?) This means that products barely have time for the ink to dry on the schematic between "experimental" and "obsolete". And, yes, it also means that companies are often forced to choose their engineering priorities. Do you want your engineers to work on a cool new interface or more reliable switching? And do you want faster video switching or more audio channels? Or would you like to do both? (Knowing that you'll have to double the price to pay for those extra engineers.) I don't think it is bad form to post a link to another forum or site if it is helpful. People review non-Emotiva products here all the time and discuss them as well. I think the only "bad form" for this Lounge is to be rude or impolite, so don't worry about posting your link!

Seriously..... Here's a link to the Ethernet API for our big processors (it's basically the same for the XMC-1, XMC-2, and RMC-1). This includes every key on the remote control plus a lot of other "direct access" commands. It's got everything you need to get started. (This link will get you both the IR codes and the Ethernet API.) emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/57717/xmc-remote-control-codes-networkIf you look at the XMC-1 the remote control is physically the same. All of the codes sent by the keys at each location are the same. But three or four of the buttons do different things on the newer processors. The TRIM buttons are now CENTER, SUB, SURR, and HEIGHT (were CENTER, SUB, SURR, and BACK). The buttons that used to do MUSIC and MOVIE with PLIIx now do DIRECT and ALL STEREO modes instead. And the actual configuration file is more or less self-documenting XML file. (You can save a copy to look at by doing a SETUP | ADVANCED | BACKUP CONFIGURATION.) Our current IOS app is written and supported by an independent programmer. You may feel free to develop, give out, support, and even sell a competing one if you like. It should be painfully obvious to all who are waiting for the next firmware - Emo has not hired the right person to do their coding. If they were genuinely able to do effective recursive/iterative coding/testing/release we would see more frequent firmware releases addressing a single "major" issue with some minor house cleaning. When will we see the next firmware? It doesn't matter. By now each of us has had to figure out which workaround or headache works most of the time. I waited up till midnight the day these units first went on sale to get mine. The first firmware was "not ready for prime-time". I've suffered through having to daily power cycle. Cringe at random crazy loud static. Loss of audio. And volume weirdness (+/- 10dB) after previous firmware updates. Thankfully, most but not all of the WTF problems have been sorted. When it works it is really really good. I just hope that if/when an HDMI 2.1 board comes along that we don't start the @#$% show all over again. It may have been noted by some that my rather flippant musings on the non-availability of the v3.0 firmware for the RMC-1L. I'd like to state that I am not unsympathetic to Emotiva and the good people who work there. And like you I think I've been extraordinarily patient, finding work-arounds for all the weird little foibles that beset the use of this promising box. But still this situation is accelerating into farce. My sympathy for this situation stems from my own work. I invented an application which has become the most used on-set software tool in the motion picture industry. Called Artemis Director's Viewfinder I won an Emmy in 2018 for its decades long use on nearly every film & TV production worldwide. A large chunk of my life is taken up progressively updating the software, fixing bugs and improving the interface along guidelines gleaned from our loyal users. Sound familiar? I agree with you though, it seems that whoever is looking after the firmware development is perhaps under duress or doesn't understand that our patience can only be stretched so far. I'd also like a crack at redesigning the interface of the iOS control app for the RMC-1. It could be so much better. I mean, just having the volume control being easy to find in the dark would be helpful. Maybe I moan too much....?

Do you want your engineers to work on a cool new interface or more reliable switching? And do you want faster video switching or more audio channels? Or would you like to do both? (Knowing that you'll have to double the price to pay for those extra engineers.) 1. Reliable switching please. 2. More audio channels please (even though it doesn't help with my processor, but if it gets DLBC going, then yeah!). I really don't care anymore about switching speed. The time it takes to go in and out of the menus on some of my devices far surpasses the amount of time it takes to switch HDMI inputs. I don't need a fancy interface. As purely functional as possible is what I've always preferred. This is where I really do want the fastest experience as possible. Less graphics = quicker speed. Now, if there was a way to use an external graphics card to speed up the "cool interface", then I'd be ok with that. The only interface I've seen photos of that looks looks cool, is very useful, and allows full customization of the processor, is Trinnov. Yeah, I know, they've got the $$$$$$ to toss at it. But it really is a nice setup and the processor will allow all sorts of routing that seems to only be limited by the imagination of the programmer setting it up. It's the one every other company should copy.

Markus The Harmony Hub based remotes have discrete Speaker Preset codes already, have not tried a standard remote for that. Granularity into the preset might be nice to expose with a code (slots within a preset), which may be your point. Here’s a portion of Harmony’s RMC ‘device’ page, the 3rd is for the XMC-1

Based at the technical specification, your processors have to support: - XCM-2/RMC-1(L) have to support all modes with up to 18 Gbps bandwidth, incl.: -- ARC only (no any eARC audio support) - BasX MC1 13.2 is still using HDMI 2.0b compliant video board (up to 18 Gbps bandwidth, correct?), but will support: -- ARC (up to 1 Mbps) audio, means: up to DD 5.1 compressed AND -- eARC (up to 37 Mbps) audio, means: incl. object-based audio up to 192 KHz, 24-bit (e.g. Dolby Atmos, DTS:X) It will be great, if you will confirm or update. Note that the table doesn't include the HDMI versions... And there are minor distinctions - for example even between HDMI 2.0a and HDMI 2.0b. Each HDMI version includes some "required modes and features" and a bunch of "optional ones". (This means that most "HDMI 2.1 devices" are NOT going to support all of the modes in the "list of HDMI 2.1 modes".) It's also worth noting that, at the hardware level, a lot of this is "set" by the vendors who manufacture the HDMI switch hardware. For example, I believe there are now two companies who manufacture HDMI switches we could use, so they get to decide many of those details. And, as a very broad generalization, they are going to support "the formats that are commonly used in consumer products and are required by the standard". As for your specific questions.... - I believe ARC is required in HDMI 2.0b (certainly everybody supports in in HDMI 2.0 onwards) - ARC supports DD 5.1+ - ARC also technically supports Dolby Atmos over a compressed DD5.1+ core (but most TVs probably don't support that) - eARC is a required feature for HDMI 2.1 but not for HDMI 2.0b - 18 gBPS is required for HDMI 2.0b - in simple terms ARC basically supports the same modes as Optical and eARC basically supports all audio modes (including Atmos) - the RMC-1, RMC-1L, and XMC-2 support HDMI 2.0b (so 18 gBPS) - the RMC-1, RMC-1L, and XMC-2 DO NOT support eARC - the BasX MC1 supports HDMI 2.0b (so 18 gBPS) - the BasX MC1 also supports both ARC and eARC (eARC is a required feature in HDMI 2.1 but you are certainly allowed to support it in HDMI 2.0b) - at its full channel count Atmos supports 48k - Dolby TrueHD supports sample rates up to 24/192k at some channel counts NOTE: The Dolby decoder module is licensed by Dolby (they test it and certify that it meets their requirements). So the exact details about what sample rates you can get at what channel counts are set by Dolby as part of the decoder specs. It's also worth noting that computers and computer monitors tend to support the widest range of video options (and this includes TVs - which are often used as computer monitors). So, for example, there are lots of computer graphics cards that support 5k resolution, and lots of monitors that support it, and probably quite a few "TVs".... But you're unlikely to find a home theater pre/pro that supports 5k video (or a cable box or disc player that puts it out). (Because "4k" and "8k" are the standards for "home and TV video"... and 5k is not.) Now compare that to HDMI... Which is literally hundreds or thousands of times more complex than plain old analog audio... And which changes almost from day to day... Draw a timeline that includes composite video, component video, HDMI, HDMI (HD), HDMI (4k), HDMI (4k HDR), and now HDMI (8k)... You have all of the current codes... and we have no current plans to expand the code set. At the moment you can choose the Presets but not the Dirac Filters that is selected in each. I know we all want (and deserve) the entire cake and eat it too (by yesterday)......there will always be priorities and I get how tough this is.......so for what its worth...... Keith/Brent/Emotiva Engineers I need the following (2 bug fixes and 2 enhancements) in priority order: - Bug fix click popping sound when switching formats - this is really *#@%)!@ me off.....if I forget to mute and the click/pop goes through the system I get really annoyed and if I lose a tweeter/speaker my toys will definitely be tossed out of the pram :-) - please get me more channels and the xlr expansion card for the RMC-1 so I can move from 9.1.6 to 9.1.8 (and more subs properly - although see below) - latest up mixer/formats per promise (hand in hand with previous ask of extra channels) - Bug fix bass level issue.....I know I can reduce the bass chanel level by ~10db after level setting but seriously its now been going on forever so lets just get it out of the way As far as other asks, I see them now as nice to have: - I don't normally go into the interface once the theatre is setup, so its fine for what I need and when I need it. No need for fancy interface strictly speaking - so its in the nice to have category - Gave up waiting so bought the MiniDSP Flex to handle my 4 subwoofers and will balance with REW then run DIRAC with the RMC-1 over it. If more channels and DLBC is implemented without bugs then I will use the RMC-1 exclusively and deploy the MiniDSP elsewhere (or sell it) - As far as faster switching and ARC/eArc - switching is fast enough for my use and since I have a single projector, ARC enhancements are not an issue for me Anyway the above is based on my use case ie a medium/large dedicated theatre with single display device, very much set and forget, separate music system, and minimal switching. I would be very happy with the RMC-1 if the above 4 items were sorted. BTW a mate recently purchased the Trinnov A32 and yes the interface is brilliant, and it has the right channel count and format support etc.....but pound for pound audio wise we both agree its not worth the money over the RMC-1 for our use type....in fact he came over to my place before designing his theatre and after spending an afternoon playing around he would have purchased an RMC-1 if the above 4 items were sorted (the click/pop bug and channel count in particular pushed him over the edge and frankly if the roles were reversed I would do the same).

Likely Emotiva wish to make the firmware as annual event? In any case the pops has a workaround by setting the lip sync, suggested by a staff from Emotiva. Thanks
