Might be a litte pricey appearing but not really. Espcieally considering they'll last nearly forever. And they are getting terrific press with many helps to sound noted. www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=PGDS400I'd expect it possible to duplicate these for a fraction the 'ask' but if you are not DIY inclined? Reasonable.

I got the LS300 speaker stands for $74.99 from Amazon at Christmas and they are quite stable as you can fill two of the three steel rods with steel shot or sand. www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=PGLS300

I'm glad you Noted STEEL shot as opposed to LEAD which is both Toxic and difficult ot dispose of properly AND handle. A proper stand will put the tweeter about at Ear Height in the seated position. Some stands have tilt provision and all can 'rotate' to provide toe or straight ahead positioning. I tend to LIKE Pangea products. They make fine power cords which will NOT put you in the poor-house OR drive you nuts TRYING to hear 'what they do'.....or Don't! DIY is STILL a viable option for anyone the least bit handy with enough imagination to still enjoy a Peter Sellers movie. Enjoy.

If you know what your are looking for, make yourself a drawing of what you want, buy the steel and have someone weld it for you. I knew what I wanted, but could not find what I needed anywhere, so I purchased the steel, all precut to my dimensions, then I took it to a welder. He welded my two speaker stands for $80.00, then I drilled it, tapped it, painted it and attached my speakers. Speaker stands to 'kind-of' suite my needs were about $400/pair. I made a perfect custom fit pair for $200. My simple speaker stands weigh it at about twenty pounds each without the speaker and are exactly what I wanted.

I like your style. But of course, since I'm NUTS I'd do a few things differently. Among them? Might not even use steel. Or Aluminum, for that matter. Schedule 40 OUTDOOR PVC comes in a variety of colors. Bundles of tube would be incredibly rigid and fillable with steel shot or even expanding foam.....to increase rigidity. I have a steel yard maybe 20 minutes from here where I can get all sorts of goodies. They have stacks of steel plates, pre cut to 12"x12" in 1/4" thickenss. I used one under my VISE on the bench. Bulletproof. They have rod, tube in square and round as well as 'surpluss' stuff which is take your chances. but for a couple stands? IF I DiD go with steel, the final product would taken to the POWDER COATER for a final finish in any one of hundreds of colors.
My speakers are floor standers so I never had to go into the stand business.
I'm GLAD to see the DIY is not dead. A few detail things and PERFECTO. Maybe spikes, not pads?
I guess I'm going to start taking a welding class at college!

Okay is there some way I can DIY some stands upon which I can mount some height speakers for Atmos functionality? I have in mind these Polk Audio Owm 5s which weigh 7-8 pounds each. They have been designed to offer multiple and versatile mounting options. Most of these options involve wall or ceiling mounting, or mounting in the corners between walls and ceilings. However, I'd prefer not to drill any holes in my walls or ceilings for them, which is why I am wondering about DIYing appropriate speaker stands. I'd gladly buy stands like these, if I could find any that could go up to 8 feet high, but I wonder why stands with such specs are so hard to find. These stands should ideally be ones from the top of which the attached speakers can be made to point or incline toward the listening position. The speakers come with mounting brackets, and look like this from the back when unattached, or attached to the bracket :

Until than I'm forced to use a very old copy of GOOGLE Sketchup of which I use the free version. It is VERY handy to draw and visualize before getting out the power tools. You can usually only cut something 3 or 4 times before it ends up TOO SHORT!

It's great for little projects, as its for creating designs to be 3D printed. I use it to visualize things like the speaker stands, and go through variations. One thing that I wish it would do, is print out a plan. I take screen grabs showing various measurements as that's the only way I can see to print out a "plan"

Wouldn't surprise me to learn they came from the SAME factory. I'd like to know the Weight.....of each brand.
Some DIY stuff is pretty neat.
