Equipment:
Denon 3400h Klipsh rf7 II Klipsh rc64 III Klipsh reference surrounds/rears and 2 klipsch powered Subs,
Current setup is 7.2 and I would like 7.2.4 but my amp preouts don’t support two sets of heights
My home theatre is Apple TV My home stereo listening is Spotify from my phone to stream via HEOS to the denon sub. I use Alexa to turn on/off amp.
Sorry long background :-)
Should I buy the Emotiva RMC 1L or a 2020 Denon 6700 If I get the RMC 1L would pair with XPA 11 if I get the Denon I would go XPA 3 and drive the rest off the new denon.
Thoughts?

Thoughts? I have gone from a Marantz SR7009 to a AV8802A to the RMC-1. The step up in audio quality from the AVR SR7009 to the RMC-1 is shocking. There really is no other way to describe it. So if money is not a significant object I would get the RMC-1L and the XPA-11. Your setup would be awesome. But it’s not a cheap option.

Thank you, should I be concerned that:
No hdmi 8k (new denon has this) Can I stream my Spotify from phone as simply Will it work with Alexa? Honestly maybe this one doesn’t matter it’s kind of ultra lazy I do this and can just turn it on
Thx!

What 8K signal would you run through the Denon?

What 8K signal would you run through the Denon? Currently. A few clips on YouTube Remember, the Denon will upscale all video to 8K.

Is your goal audio fidelity? Or 8K ability? If it's audio fidelity, RMC-1 all-the-way. 8K content general availability is still a ways off and I don't think the gain from 4K to 8K will be as impactful as the 1K to 4K was.

I’d not worry about 8K The real question is, Do you want simple and easy sound or quality HI Fidelity

No Spotify connect, no Alexa. It’s very much just a processor. That being said it sounds amazing compared to what you have now. The good thing is you have a Apple TV so you can just air play from your phone to the Apple TV for Spotify. The Emotiva is a totally different animal then the Denon. I really like Dennon and Marantz (they are sister companies) and I run a Marantz downstairs in my main room because SQ is not as important there. In that room I want something simple that still sounds good playing a movie or listing to background music. But if I’m going to pour a glass of Whistle Pig and listen to a record my RMC blows away what I have down stairs.

I can agree, my XMC-1 especially for 2ch use blew away the Marantz AV7702 I had before it.

Imo you should absolutely worry about - not 8k - but HDMI 2.1. Neither the RMC-1 or The Denon does not support HDMI 2.1. It is an HDMI 2.0b like the RMC-1. The Denon may have slightly higher bandwith and support HLG and stuff. But overall you are good imo as all you need is HDMI 2.0b for current formats. The RMC-1 is upgradable but keep in mind that Emotiva takes a LOOOOOONG time to provide real upgrades so don't hold your breath for the HDMI 2.1 upgrade. But when HDMI 2.1 comes out you're going to want it

The new Denon X Series receivers will be like nothing on the market. Whether you give hoot about 8K is irrelevant...it's coming and it will not be stopped because we don't think we need it. Check out it's amazing features on this interview with Mr. Phil Jones...I personally like the fact that it can be a pre-amp, and turn off completely it's internal amps for that purpose. youtu.be/DUP4nK8f-_E

Just my 2 cents... I recently had a severe lightning strike near my home the wasted my venerable denon avr-x4400h. Yes, it was plugged into a cmx6. The hdmi board got fried from the cable box. So, I’ve been doing a ton of research on getting a new one. The new denon models will not be shipping until july/august. Production is also limited by the current state of the world.
After everything I looked at for my needs 7.4.4, I went with the avr-x6500, just purchased today. 8k will not be widely available for quite a while. The state of hdmi will always be in flux. The preamp mode on the new denons only work if you disable ALL of the amplifier channels. What is the point of buying a receiver to use soley as a preamp? Just buy a preamp/processor.
All told, you can get very good deals on the 6500 right now. That’s because the new models are coming. The current available models have 99% of what the 2020 models have. They’re still providing firmware updates as well. I’ll be using this with 3 XPA-100s and a Gen 2 XPA 2, just on the front soundstage.
Take a look at accessories4less. They have these for 1500, free shipping and a denon 3yr warranty. Not bad, and a more mature package than Emotiva offers with the XMC/RMC. I’ve heard them, they are great, but they can be buggy as hell.
edit, there is one interesting note on the new denons. They are supposed to be able to instantly lock onto an hdmi signal with no drop out. My previous experience was a lock time of 1 second or less. If that’s important to you, then that’s important to you.

Eeep! Any recommendations for a surge suppressor or some other such device to save that from happening to me?

Jsut make sure anything connected to your receiver is protected. What I missed was the F connection and that is what got it. CMX6 doesn’t have that protection so I also bought a panamax for that and LAN. I think it was a really freaky accident and just so happened. I have underground power so I was never worried about that specifically. Never underestimate the power of mother nature. Starting tomorrow night, it all gets taken apart then everything will be protected when it goes back together.

Thanks I pulled the trigger on XPA 3 amp to power my pair of rf7ii and Rc64iii
Kept the Denon 3400 but did almost pull The trigger on one of the new Denons then thought maybe one of the refurbs then looked at RMC1l again and ultimately decided to wait. Basically I have a benq 1080 projector on a 150” screen and next upgrade would be to 4K not 8k anytime soon (years). I also in my research realized for me and my space I would never want more over 7.2.4, but it does mean I need a processor that can decode 11 channels vs my Denon today but since I don’t have the heights Yet and I want Klipsch (5800ii) will cost $1500 I decided to pause for the moment and not upgrade all at once.
Can’t wait to hear the amp, I can actually say I never heard a power amp before and I am looking forward to my impressions vs just using my denon AVR for all 7.2 channels today (self powered subs)
