It only lasts a max of 2 seconds, and only happens maybe once a day. Is this something I should be concerned about as it may evolve into something else? Or is this just totally normal for the amp?
Basically I'm just trying to gauge if I should be doing anything right now. I would appreciate any insights, thank you!

If you can MAKE it buzz, you could track it down. Something is loose, maybe. Transformers can buzz. Since the SMPS is at a higher frequency, above the audio band, you MIGHT be hearing a subharmonic of a coil vibrating. How would you evaluate the LOAD on the PS when you hear the noise?

Thank you for your reply! I can't make it buzz unfortunately, it just happened to buzz when I was standing by it finally. The load on the amp when the buzz occurs is zero, so maybe a bit of dirty power or something here and there? I don't know.

Actually it is the Gen 3 with SMPS. Gen 2 are Linear Power Supplies. Most likely it is from the transformer. Some vibration. I would say nothing to worry about. If it keeps going then there is an appreciable amount of DC in the AC mains or hash like noise. If it last 2 seconds and goes away, don't worry about it. Observe yes. Worry? No.

Long Shot Idea: Ready? When the amp does the Buzz.....is ANY appliance turning ON or OFF at that moment? I'm thinking the A/C or perhaps the Fridge? Not anything 'small'. Don't most switchers Also have a transformer? Small, to be sure, but at the frequency of operation, don't have to be large?

Hello! I haven't observed any appliances turning on or off when the buzzing occurs, but it doesn't sound like this is a problem I should lose to much sleep over. Thank you all for the advice!

I'd monitor it for a while and see if there is some device or event on the outside causing it to buzz. However if you can't figure it out, I would still send it back eventually to have them fix it as it will impact your resale value.

If it's under warranty it would be worth it for your peace of mind as well as future resale value to have it checked out. If it's not under warranty, Emotiva has a set amount they charge for repairs and it's not bad. Give them a call and discuss.

Transformer buzz is most possible when the LOAD is least and the flux density is highest.
Is buzz when amp is basically idle?

Ya, I have only observed it buzzing when the amp is fully idle, which is weird to say the least. I do leave it on constantly, which to my understanding is not harmful to the amp. I will definitely give Emotiva a call to ask how much it would be to pay them to check the amp and potentially even perform some form of maintenance on it? Thank you all for the input!
Also I was mistaken in the title. It is a gen 1 amp. I updated the title! Given that it's a gen 1 it is probably due for some form of maintenance by now anyways. It's wonderful that the amp has performed this well for this long without any issues.

Don't they use toroidal transformers? I didn't think they could buzz like a std. plate transformer.
