Hi guys, I would like to ask you for your help based on your experience with Emotiva products. I currently have a Marantz NR 1508 and the performance is good for movies, but I would like to improve the performance when I listening music. I use the receiver 50% for Music and 50% for movies. My speakers are Monitor Audio (Fronts: Bronze 5) I have the opportunity of buying an Emotiva UPA 500 and I would like to use it only for the front speakers (I have only pre-outs for front speakers in the Marantz). Do you think the the emotiva UP 500 will definitely be an improvement in terms of stereo listening quality? or it does not make sense to include it and it is better to save some money for a better receiver? Any comments will be very helpful for me. Many thanks!!!!! Regards, Gustavo

Hey Gustavo,
For me to my ears in my room going the way of external amplifier was an improvement, back about 10 years ago I added two UPA-1 amps to my then Yamaha receiver and I immediately noticed an improvement in areas like dynamics and imaging, since then I no longer own a receiver but separates being my now XMC-1 and Outlaw 7ch amplifier, I say go for it, if you don't find you need it you can always sell it as they are still desirable amplifiers.
Cheers, Chad

I have added a 3 channel amp (Acurus) to a Pioneer Elite receiver in a 5.1 setup with the receiver driving the surrounds and the Acurus driving the front three speakers. Huge improvement. I have added a five channel XPA-5 to a Denon receiver with no comparison in sound quality. I have moved on to the XMC-1 and now 2 with a XPA-5 Gen 3. So, yes, I believe adding the amp to your receiver will improve the SQ and give you much enjoyment.

The UPA 500 is the Emotiva amp I have always regret selling. I have owned 5 Emotiva amps. The UPA 500 was my 5.1 amp powering big Paradigm 100v3 speakers! Of course the amp was handling only frequencies 80hz and up but most amps used for home theater are used in this same fashioned. Don't let the power numbers full you!
