My sofa is only about 3 feet off the back wall so even the rear surrounds in my 7.1 are pretty close, but I love them and they are a worthwhile upgrade from 5.1 (I use 5.1 to 7.1 upmixing as well as native 7.1)
I am going to put in Atmos ceiling speakers and whilst I only have two spare amplifier channels, so is 7.1.2 convenient, I doubt I can get adequate Top Rear speaker placement due to the sofa being close to the back wall
I do understand that Atmos is absolutely best with 4 ceiling speakers for panning of overhead sound, plus, many movies (eg Disney) are hard coded to 7.1.4
I have seriously considered taking the hit and buying the amps to give me 7.1.4 (and considered 5.1.4) but the 7.1.4 Dolby speaker configuration advice shows the "Top rear" speakers should be 45 degrees backwards and there is no way my room will accommodate that so the top rears will be practically overhead, especially as I have fibrous plaster cornicing on the ceiling, jutting 8" away from the wall

So, I am settled on 7.1.2 (Unless I REALLY get advised that I am being foolish by those that have been through this and can account for my lack of rear space)
However, this is where the variance is! I have spent time looking at these differing 7.1.2 speaker configurations from Dolby, with the second one linking from the first web address:
7.1.2 - This main webpage shows two "Top Middle Overhead" speakers at 80 degrees forwards angle
www.dolby.com/about/support/guide/speaker-setup-guides/7.1.2-overhead-speaker-setup-guide/
BUT - the linked page shows something different. Obviously one of them is an error.
7.1.2 pdf: The linked pdf from the above page shows two "Top Middle Overhead" speakers at 65 degrees forwards angle!!
www.dolby.com/siteassets/about/support/guide/setup-guides/7.1.2-overhead-speaker-placement/sell-sheet-7.1.2-mounted.pdf
Which one do I go for! 65 or 80 degrees?
My natural inclination is to go for 65 degrees as per the pdf, as out ears face forwards!
Second point - Dolby specifies "Top Middle Overhead" for the 7.1.2 speakers. In the Emotiva, I presume I have to connect to Top front amp outputs and and configure it as Top Front?
