I've installed my front ceiling speakers and went to settings to activate them. I was expecting "large", "small" and "none". There are a LOT of options. I tried to find out the differences in the user manual, but there's not much info about the choices.
Is there a clear description of each choice anywhere? Lookin' for a link.
thanks, rob

There is a choice for Dolby. Is there a reason I shouldn't pick that? Also I plan to add rear ceiling speakers shortly.

There is a choice for Dolby. Is there a reason I shouldn't pick that? Also I plan to add rear ceiling speakers shortly. The Dolby choice should not be selected. Those are for the speakers that fire up. Ok so the rear speakers are top rear . That’s How mine is configured.

Lookin' for a link. thanks, rob Top = ceiling So you want to front ceiling speakers to be set to top front. Then you can decide large or small -> crossover. I don’t know any links unfortunately. That isn't correct. Whilst I have no idea (yet) how the XMC-2/RMC-1 maps and communicates it's speakers configuration into the Dolby Atmos / Surround Upmixer or to the DTS:X / Neural:X, the official Dolby advice conflicts with this. Because DTS give no advice, it is sensible to use the Dolby speaker placement guidelines. If you have installed just the two ceiling speakers then for an X.X.2 setup, the Front Heights speaker configuration should be set to Top Middle, NOT Top Front. Small size setting is probably correct for almost every ceiling speaker available but note that in he XMC-2 and RMC-1, the default heights speaker crossover for small speakers is set to 250Hz (rather than the 80Hz on the other channels) so you might want to consider changing that, before running Dirac on your XMC-2 tomorrow. (**cough**) If you have 4 height speakers in the ceiling for an X.X.4 setup then set Front Heights as Top Front and and Rear Heights to Top Rear. (Again, small or large) If you had 2 more ceiling speakers for X.X.6 then you'd then need to repurpose the L&R subwoofer outputs as Top Middle (But note that if you only have an X.X.2 setup then use the Front Height group in the speaker setup to give Top Middle, and NOT the subwoofer outputs) The main problem with getting ceiling speakers is that if you ever go from 2 speakers up to 4, or 6 then you need to move the initial two, as the placement for X.X.2 is very different than either of the X.X.4 ceiling speakers, and not even in the right place for Top Middle in an X.X.6 setup. Ideally decide this before installing! There is not a perfect expansion route otherwise and large ceiling holes are no fun to have to fill! (Mine are 11") Also, if you are a skilled plasterer and might install more in the future, then at least consider leaving some extra slack cable length in the ceiling in case you do move them in the future, and strongly consider laying enough cable for 6 ceiling speakers while you are at it as it is barely any more difficult to do this at the beginning ( and decent fireproof in-wall/ceiling cable is pretty cheap) (My QED 4 strand QX16/4 is £1.50 per metre so the banana plugs cost more than the cable as my scientific background means I do not subscribe to expensive cable nonsense) (And I only get banana plugs as fiddling around the back of a power amp in a rack is not easy at the best of times and I do not ever want one loose straggle of a wire to cause a short)

So for now I'd experiment setting the two ceiling speakers as Top Middle and Top Front to see what happens. For X.X.2, they will be in a slightly too far forward position, but then when you get rears, the naming is easier.

I placed the front ceiling speakers using the Dolby site as my guide. They are approx. 45° to the listener and about the same width at the front mains. I plan to add the rear ceiling speakers this weekend. I have a vaulted ceiling. The speakers are mounted using an Omnimount gimbal. The rear ones will be mounted similarly. Sounds like I should chose Top Front and Rear Height settings.

If you have installed just the two ceiling speakers then for an X.X.2 setup, the Front Heights speaker configuration should be set to Top Middle, NOT Top Front. I'm going off of memory, since my XMC-2 is in the shop, but I don't believe you can enable top middle until you've enabled top front/rear. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember being surprised, as that's a fairly common x.x.2 setup per Dolby's documentation.

Front Heights are set as Top Middle I believe you are thinking of the L&R subwoofer outputs. The option to configure these as Top Middle seems to only be available when the Top Heights are set
