The "gold standard" for Roon servers would be their own Linux box, but the Mini offers me a number of advantages that I need:
1. It has no loud cooling fan (my older 17" MacBook Pro sounds like a jet engine on takeoff)
2. It has the Mac OS that I am familiar with and runs Roon
3. It is small enough to go on my equipment rack (thus enabling USB audio connection rather than Ethernet)
4. It only needs video monitoring at startup & shutdown - the rest of the time it can run "headless" and not require a screen. The TV can serve as the occasional monitor.
If you've an unused Mac Mini lounging about that you're not using, consider selling it to me, please.
Thanks - Boomzilla

You might also keep an eye on Apple's " Certified Refurbished and Clearance" section of their website. I've bought several Macs and iPads from there and you absolutely can't tell they're refurbished. They come packaged just like new stock and carry the same warranty, but at a decent discount. They don't have any Mac Mini's right now (they sell quite well), but that changes often. HERE is a direct link to their Refurbished Store.

Boom, You misunderstood. I was telling you what I paid for the 2020 model. My old one isn’t worth much of anything Ann

I as well just went from my 2011 model to a new one, the difference is substantial in performance, I'm going to upgrade the memory myself once I get a T6S tool as I have torx drivers but not the security one needed, it is also substantially cheaper to swap the memory yourself, just a bit of disassembly but I can easily do it and it will save much moolah.

Some feel, because of the additional cores, that certain 2012 minis outperform 2014’s, so if you do go that way make sure you’re actually getting a bump in performance. Also you can add / change memory in a 2012, not so in a 2014 (soldered RAM) so be sure whatever you buy has enough.

Boom, I applaud your decision; I did much research on the Roon Core, and decided to keep my 2014 mac mini. Much more flexible, and I'm in an Apple ecosystem.

That seems very high considering a new 2020 Mac Mini starts at $799, for $150 more you can get the 2020 model and people buy those refurbed older ones ?? I just purchased one and I love it, except mine was $999 because I'm Canadian hahaha Chad

Recent eBay actual sales on 2014 mini’s are between roughly $200 and $600 depending on configuration.
