Hi all,
Hoping someone has experience in this realm.
I have set Jriver MC 26 to Bitstream over HDMI to XMC-2, when I play a movie that I have ripped that I know contains Dolby Atmos data the XMC-2 reports the sound as Dolby True HD 7.1.
Now I don't actually have an Atmos set up per say yet only 5.1 (celling speakers are coming) but I would have thought the XMC-2 should at least report that it is receiving Atmos from the HTPC?
Or is it because I have no Heights/tops etc configured in XMC-2 that it automatically does not report the extra metadata and just shows Dolby True HD?
I have downloaded the W10 Dolby Atmos software from Microsoft. Not sure of this needs to be configured anywhere else?
Sorry if I have missed something here.

Turn on a set of height speakers and see if it changes?

I have 13 hours ripped and I believe it shows as Atmos on my xmc-2

Ok so I enabled some height speakers (which don't exist at this point) in the XMC-2 menu and now when I play the movie it shows "][ Atmos " in the middle upper row of the menu but still shows TrueHD 7.1 in the middle centre row of the OSD. Does this just mean that the XMC-2 is receiving TrueHD 7.1 from the HTPC and using Atmos to upmix to fulfill my choice of enabling heights? If so then the HTPC is not passing Atmos to the XMC-2. If the XMC-2 is receiving Atmos should it report "][ Atmos" in the middle centre row of the OSD? If so what would it show in the middle upper row? Surround?

No need to worry, if your source is truly Atmos then JRiver will Bitstream it.
If the XMC-2 receives Atmos metadata it will process it - I believe this is all forms - even Dolby Digital + with Atmos metadata such as from Netflix

Atmos at the top means it has Atmos Metadata and it is a Dolby TrueHD stream. It could have been Dolby Digital Plus, etc..

Ah! Thanks guys now I get it!
So what happens when there is no Atmos Metadata but you have an Atmos set up, eg say you're playing a True HD 7.1 Stream that contains no Atmos Metadata, will the XMC-2 display True HD 7.1 in the middle of the centre row and Surround as the Middle of the top row? I guess in this case you would hear upmixed sound coming from your extra height etc speakers?

Just FYI... There are two things that seem to confuse a lot of people...
The first is that standard Dolby Atmos content contains a Dolby TrueHD "core" PLUS Atmos Metadata.
Note that the Dolby Atmos Metadata is not exactly extra tracks or extra content...
It would be more accurate to describe the Metadata as "instructions on how to render the Dolby TrueHD core as an Atmos data stream". So, if you play Dolby Atmos content on a system that only supports Dolby TrueHD, it simply plays that content as Dolby TrueHD.
(You DO NOT lose content if your system doesn't support Dolby Atmos... it's all there,... the pieces are just arranged differently.)
Second... We were recently informed by Dolby that, if your system only supports 5.1 or 7.1 channels... Even if you're playing Dolby Atmos CONTENT the PROPER way to describe it is as "Dolby TrueHD"...
Thus emphasizing the fact that, if you have a Dolby Atmos disc, it will play EXACTLY the same on a 5.1 or 7.1 "TrueHD" or "Atmos" system.
(We were displaying this incorrectly before... and have corrected the error... at least as far as we know... on current versions of everything.)
And, yes, if you enable things like height channels... "then ya got a real Atmos system" and it should display as "Atmos"... And, if you play a TrueHD disc, on a system with height speakers, and set the correct mode, the upmixer will use them. (But, technically, it won't be "Atmos"... it will just be upmixed surround sound.)

Awesome, thanks for the explanation Keith. I imagine that this refers to firmware v1.10?
