I have a reasonably good AV receiver and one AirMotiv S8 in my system. I'm planning to add several more of these subs when I move to my new house. I was wondering about where people stand on bass management. With all of the features on the new AV receiver/processors as well as all of the controls on the subwoofer, there are duplications. What's better to do, use the bass management settings on the receiver or the sub? A combinatrion of both?
Any help is appreciated.

G Wherever there is redundancy between the sub. and the processor, I defeat the sub. Controls as my first choice. That being said, it depends on the options your gear offers. I opt for keeping as much of the control as possible at the processor end. You’ve always got to come up with a manual basic volume setting at each sub. (usually a lot lower than you might think.) The “defeats” are mostly duplicated crossover networks. Bill

For surround, I let my XMC-1 pre/pro control the sub. For 2-channel, I use the sub's controls. My sub has a nice option to easily allow that. Not all do.
