I would like a zone 2 AND 3 if ever getting a new processor, currently using the receiver, love that I can use it for zone 2 on the living room and zone 3 for the garage, and of course the main room in the basement, it might be a mind changer, looking at the Marantz 7705.....let me add that it will be at least 6 to 7 months before I decide....the only thing that might pull me to the XMC2 is that I would get 30% off with my military discount....

By zone 3 are you meaning you will have three different sources playing in all zones ? if so there are ways to get around not having an actual zone 3 output on a preamp like the XMC-2, owning something like a BasX A-800 or A-400z you could simply add something like a Apple Airport Express to one of it's inputs.
Also if you don't need to have 3 different sources playing at once, owning either of those amps gives you the option of running the same(Bus Input) or as mentioned above different inputs to different zones.
The Sherbourn PT-7030 I once owned had three extra zones though I just used one, was crazy though having main zone plus three separate zones, though there was limitations to what inputs you could use for them.
Cheers, Chad

As Chad mentioned, do you need to have separate sources in each Zone? Also what kind of control you need in each location, is volume enough? Tone controls? Select music?. I have a Zone amp that drives 4 Zones, each can select one of two inputs, but I never have more than one source playing, so driving it with the Zone 2 out from the RMC works fine. It's not how many Zones you need, but what you need for each one.

Right now I have a Denon 4500 in the basement, I send whatever to zone 2 with a Yamaha receiver in the living room, send the same or something else to zone 3 for the garage which has a Technics receiver, while having a different source in the basement...I love it when doing a party....

Ok, so you have pretty much complete control at each location, for volume, treble, bass. It almost seems like a Y cable out of a single Zone channel would work.

I thought about that, split the zone 2, send it to both living room and the garage, then again I would not want to have those two on at the same time receiving the same split signal because of impedance issues...

Or try something like bluesound speakers. If you have roon endpoints, roon can handle basically infinite zones, all with separate controls. Or the same.

Except he already has amps and speakers at his ‘zone’ locations, he’s just looking for a way to feed them. Ok, so you have pretty much complete control at each location, for volume, treble, bass. Since you’re feeding a high impedance line level input (presumably something like ‘Aux’?) on both Zone receivers, there shouldn’t be an impedance issue with a single split. I assume you’re running long RCA/unbalanced cable to each location? There’s always the potential of picking up noise and some attenuation with really long cables, but if it’s good now a Y should work fine. You could even test it by running both units off Y’s from the Denon’s Zone 2.

Yes, but you started a thread to help figure out if a single Zone out would work, if it doesn’t work you could make your list shorter now. 🤷♂️

Yes, but you started a thread to help figure out if a single Zone out would work, if it doesn’t work you could make your list shorter now. 🤷♂️ I appreciate your or anybody's comments, but you might want to read the opening thread... From your title and post I got that you like having two zones (2 & 3) and you’re wondering if you could get by with the single (Zone 2) on the XMC-2, regardless, you won’t be purchasing for several months. People (including me) suggested how you can get by with a single zone. I suggested a test that would answer your question, but if I missed the boat, sorry.

If you want less SQ but zones 2 & 3 then get the 7705, if you want better SQ and a zone 2 then get the XMC-2, I've owned Marantz and sorry to say it cannot compete in terms of SQ of the XMC series and up from Emotiva. There's ways to get around having just one extra zone like I explained in my first post, in the end it is you decision to do what you need, we can only try and help by making suggestions Cheers, Chad
