Just came across something and wanted to share. On iPhones in the Utilities Folder there's an app called Measure. When the app is opened choose Level at the bottom. Hold the iPhone as vertical as you can so the screen looks like the photo below. Then tilt to the angle you want and "sight" along the edge or middle of the screen to target a point on the ceiling so you can tell your partner where to mark the ceiling. Or, you can lock your eyes on that spot, stand up and then climb the ladder - without stumbling into anything else along the way, and mark the ceiling. Funny me, I was using a construction calculator to enter the distance and rise to calculate to the angle.

Well I prefer the laser you recommended in another post, but this is handy too. I now also see another use for the iPhone camera tripod a friend just gave me.

This idea doesn't negate including the usage of your new tool. Combine them for extra fun. Once you know what angle you are going to use then you use the app and iPhone to sight a spot on the ceiling. Then position the laser so it aims close to that spot. Recheck with the app. Once the laser is pointing exactly where you want, now you can climb the OSHA approved ladder to mark the ceiling. Or do the opposite, just like George Costanza. Position the laser first and check the angle with the app to see if it's within the range of degrees you'd like. It's a Festivus Miracle! So you're really liking that laser tool, huh? They are really nifty! If they had one that could be set to a particular angle then you could put align that with the MLP and do the deed in one step! edit: And by the way AudioHTIT , I just ordered a laser just like yours! I couldn't find one that did as much for less than twice as much. I've got some ceiling projects next week, light fixtures that need to line up, etc.

I couldn't find one that did as much for less than twice as much. I've got some ceiling projects next week, light fixtures that need to line up, etc. I am liking it, when I went to mount some ceiling speakers, for two of them I replaced existing can light positions. When I took the lights out I could tell that the two holes weren’t exactly symmetrical from center, my OCD kicked in and I was paralyzed as to how to solve the problem of making two holes bigger and symmetrical at the same time. My wife was helping me and doesn’t have much patience for this kind of thing, but she knows I’m going to do it anyway. We just stopped until the laser arrived and then everything continued on smoothly. So yes, it worked great! 👍
